About the role

As a Power Generation Account Engineer you will be responsible for the delivery of sound engineering risk selection advice for Underwriters and loss prevention advice for our clients. Your role will include evaluating loss prevention survey reports, engineering documents, etc. of power generation facilities including combined cycle, simple cycle, thermal / fossil plants, electrical substations, electrical converter stations, waste to energy, hydro, wind, solar, battery storage, etc. Candidates should be able to evaluate our client's risks throughout their group of assets, and develop an opinion of risk to support the underwriting process and help ensure that proper underwriting decisions are made.

What you need to know:

  • Support our team in APAC to provide engineering oversight to the regional underwriting office for Energy and Engineered Power Generation accounts, as well as completion of Account Summary Reports for prospective new business and renewal accounts.
  • Provide engineering services that enhance underwriting performance by helping reduce overall account loss potential, improve account risk quality through risk assessments and risk improvement consultations. Ability to analyze and manage risk improvements of an account and work with the client to prioritize and implement.
  • Manage the Energy and Engineered Risk Utilities industry clients engineering Client Service Process (CSP) including service plan development, service coordination, report reviews, recommendation handling and stewardship of the account. Conducting periodic client service meetings with underwriting, broker and client.
  • Develop field engineering service and survey plans, review completed reports, provide technical loss control assistance to engineers, clients, perform marketing functions for new & renewal business.
  • You may also be expected to conduct field surveys of locations and be able to collaborate with site management and personnel in order to collate insurance information and assist with providing risk services.
  • Carry out desk top risk analysis as required by reviewing, interpreting and summarising third party technical risk information.
  • You need to have the technical ability to analyze the loss prevention attributes of a facility including proper operations and maintenance of plant equipment; Developing loss estimates for power generation equipment; Analyze water supplies and sprinkler system demands to determine water supply and sprinkler system adequacy Identify power generation hazards and assess the adequacy of their protection features and Identify and assess the impact of external exposures on a facility
What we are looking for:
  • Professional degree qualification in a field of engineering or risk management. Graduate Electrical or Mechanical engineer preferred.
  • Highly motivated and work well without close supervision and have ability to make decisions with and without established guidelines.
  • Extensive industrial experience (10 years or more) in power plant or within a boiler/gas turbine or electrical transformer manufacturer.
  • Power generation industry experiences preferred.
  • HSE or maintenance experience.
  • Working knowledge of Internationally recognized fire protection standards (e.g. NFPA Codes) as well as local asset protection standards (required). Preference is to be Highly Protected Risk (HPR) trained;
  • Knowledge of renewable power generation facilities.
  • Experience of power generation design/construction projects.
  • Previous experience of working for a major insurance carrier or broker.
  • Other advantageous experience:
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, practices, procedures, and techniques related to power generation.
  • Good technical engineering background and loss prevention skills.
  • Able to undertake international travel for up to 90 days per year
  • Other working languages would be an advantage.
  • Ability to write clear and concise overviews and reports.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. (English)
  • Able to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
