Position Summary

At Illumina, innovation drives expanding market opportunities. Genomics continues to transform the standard of care, and we are looking for a strong strategic business development individual to secure external strategic partnerships advancing Illumina\xe2\x80\x99s commercial presence within the Asia, Middle East, and Africa (AMEA) region. The focus of this role will be on a variety of strategic deals, including IVD licensing, distribution, OEM, and collaboration deals.

The AMEA Business Development Lead will participate in the strategy definition and drive the evaluation and execution of strategic partnerships in established and emerging geographies. This position reports to the head of clinical and international business development and is within the Corporate Development & Strategic Planning (CDSP) team at Illumina which leads the analysis and execution of strategic partnerships, M&A, and strategic planning.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead partner and deal evaluation, deal execution and initial implementation of executed partnerships. Partner with Alliance Management and commercial teams for transfer and implementation of executed partnerships.
  • Research and identify new business opportunities that would grow Illumina\xe2\x80\x99s product ecosystem in the region in a scalable way. Create, communicate, and implement actionable strategy recommendations for partnerships, in collaboration with commercial, marketing, operations, and other relevant functions.
  • Proactively build funnel of opportunities for key strategic partnering areas through networking and market research.
  • Run internal deal teams for deliverables and activities that are part of the partnering center of excellence process. Develop business models, terms, and performance targets for partnerships.
  • Develop, review, and negotiate contracts.
  • Serve as an advisor to the commercial team on complex deals and commercial expansion programs.
  • Work across internal functions including Marketing, Commercial, Legal, Finance, Operations, R&D, and other stakeholders to drive prioritization decisions, resource allocation, accountability and joint activities supporting deal process and partnership execution.
  • Build expertise in focus areas. Share knowledge internally by supporting team members on other deals, including global deals and M&A.
  • Create presentations to support business cases and value propositions to internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree is required. MBA or advanced degree in a related field preferred; fundamental financial knowledge and modelling skills required.
  • Educational background or work experience in Life Sciences is required. Experience and market knowledge of genomics, molecular biology, medical devises, and/or diagnostics is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of AMEA markets, including go-to-market approaches and channel strategies, is required.
  • Typically requires 8 years of experience in business development, product management, alliances, or similar business roles with strategic and customer/partner-facing attributes, including at least 3 years of relevant business/corporate development experience within the region.
  • Proven ability to evaluate and solve complex problems and the strategic implications of different business approaches. Ability and desire to effectively manage a project from start to finish both in time and with the desired financial outcome.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, excellent attention to detail.
  • Collaborative mindset required. Enjoys and thrives in a multi-stakeholder setting, builds strong relationships and creates followership.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and fast-paced environment. Capable of learning fast and synthesizing learnings in a format appropriate for diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills required. Possesses ability to communicate at all levels of an organization internally and externally.
  • Strong English language proficiency is required; other languages of the AMEA region is a plus.
  • Location: Singapore or Melbourne, Australia preferred; location in other countries in the region with a proximity to major airports is possible.
