Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Consumer Health business to create a new publicly traded company. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 24 months, and it will be subject to legal requirements including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as required, and other customary conditions and approvals.

It is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, this position may be conveyed with New Consumer Health. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to the successful candidate by New Consumer Health at an appropriate time and would be subject to any necessary consultation processes. Position Description: The Asia Manager of Media Relations will be part of a global team driving high-impact communications to engage and align employees around the world, support activities that protect and enhance brand and business reputation, and drive awareness of our brands and mission among consumers. The role will be responsible for global issues response strategy, crisis communications and media relations specifically for key business initiatives in the APAC region. This Manager will support the Media Relations Communications Leader to strategize and proactively communicate Company news in the 24/7 news cycle, as well as respond to and manage quick-turn and complicated issues. This person will be responsible for creating media strategies and story frameworks tied to Enterprise reputation drivers, balanced with any number of issues across the business. This leader collaborates across the business sectors, providing enterprise perspective to business and functional media initiatives while ensuring consistency with the Global Corporate Media Relations Guidelines. This candidate is a seasoned corporate communications strategist with a passion for fast-paced issues and media relations. This person leads through ambiguous and unprecedented situations and fosters collaboration across the world and throughout the matrix. This role will counsel on global media strategy and will interact directly with reporters regularly Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the NCHC Corporate Brand and drive strategy and messaging to build the reputation of NCHC within today’s 24/7 news cycle.
  • Partners with Media Relations Communications Leader to develop and execute best-in-class strategic communication activations and media engagement to manage brand and business issues; does so independently, with limited or no agency support.
  • Maintain alignment across functions and across regions, ensuring collaboration and awareness by all parties of anticipated and ongoing issues and media relations activations.
  • Serve as a counselor to NCHC business leaders on media interaction, reactive positions, and media relations.
  • Strategically aligns press releases, news coverage, and announcements within landscape of NCHC; understands external factors that shape news coverage of the company and our industry.
  • Work closely with Media Relations Leader and other Media Relations counterparts on media strategy, including reporter and influencer research, pitch development and outreach, management of executive interviews, and reporting and analytics.
  • Act as a strategic adviser to various business segments and functions.
  • Proactively research and recommend unique media opportunities, as well as pitch media and manage reactive media inquiries.
  • Make daily judgement calls on Company statements and show strong media acumen when engaging with reporters. Serves as corporate spokesperson.
  • Develop comprehensive media preparation files for C-Suite level executives ahead of media interviews; conduct media trainings as needed.
  • Advise on strategy and develop materials to respond to quick-turn and complicated issues.
  • Serve as a thought-leader bridging earned, owned, and paid communications functions, fostering leadership alignment between relevant functions.
  • Oversee program-specific research efforts inclusive of consumer insights, consumer segmentation, competitive intelligence, industry trends, and developments.
  • Strategically align press releases, news coverage, and announcements in partnership with executive leadership, Finance Comms and Legal Comms.
  • Maintain rich understanding of industry best practices and emerging trends.
  • Develop strong partnerships and support Global, Regional, Business and Enterprise leaders in the execution of communications and media strategies.

Qualifications
Required Competencies:
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • 6+ years of experience in communications within a corporate environment or public relations agency
  • Deep understanding of the media on a global scale (traditional, online, broadcast, and social) and brand marketing trends (earned, owned, and paid)
  • A self-starter with high attention to detail and the ability to prioritize, be assertive, and take ownership. Able to shift gears and acclimate quickly
  • Must demonstrate a global mindset with knowledge, appreciation, and awareness of the NCHC business operating flexibly from a global, regional, and local level
  • Professional maturity and ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and work independently with minimal supervision and/or as part of a team
  • A successful track record of developing and implementing strategic media plans and placing stories in key media outlets
  • Must be a strong media statement writer and critical thinker and have direct experience working with leading news organizations
  • Must be capable of mentoring and developing skills within a team
  • Demonstrated ability to develop compelling stories, with superior written, oral, and visual communication abilities
  • Proven leadership and management of complex products; ability to thrive in a matrix organization to drive projects to conclusion.
  • Ability to stay aligned with overall strategic direction while applying diligence and attention to detail in execution and reliably meeting deadlines.
  • Flawless English written, verbal, and visual communication skills are a must.

  • Experience with issues management, crisis communications and/or litigation communications preferred.
