The National Heritage Board (NHB) preserves, presents and promotes the cultural heritage of Singapore and the Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC) is an institution of NHB. It is a purpose-built facility for the storage and conservation of the National Collection comprising artworks and artefacts. Its mission is to care for, manage and facilitate access to the National Collection.In addition to working in HCC, the Assistant Conservator (Paintings) would be working on site at the museums when the need arises.What you will be working onPaintings sectionWorking in close collaboration with the members of the Paintings team, the essential job functions are described as follows:Carry out conservation assessments, documentation and treatments on artworks and artefacts according to HCC procedures for projects, exhibitions and events for museums and institutions under NHB, Heritage Institutions and the Visual Arts Cluster.Supporting exhibitions and preventive conservation work by ensuring that the works are safe for display, carrying out installation/de-installation work and providing advice on the handling and display requirements whenever necessary. This includes being the liaison officer for the section on assigned exhibitions projects.Participate and share administrative duties in the section, ranging from coordinating meetings, preparing agendas, minutes of meetings, report writing, and any procurement work as assigned by the head of section.Be involved in conservation working groups based in HCC, conservation studies, research projects, outreach events or any other ah-hoc duties as assigned.What we are looking forBackground in Conservation, with a speciality in conserving paintings or in Science/ Humanities (Arts or History) from a recognised training institution.Preferably at least 1 year of experience in relevant conservation facilities. Candidates without the relevant set of professional training and experience may apply.Able to carry out practical work with high degree of manual dexterity and aesthetic sensitivity.Experience in handling multi-cultural materials with sensitivity and sound contextual judgements in applying conservation principles and practices, while working collaboratively with relevant stakeholders will be advantageous. Familiarity and experience with cultural materials from South-east Asia and Asia preferred and interest in conservation of contemporary art is welcomed.Strive to keep up to date with current conservation development through self-directed learning and training.A strong team player with good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments and institutions.
