What the role is:A cultural and architectural landmark in Singapore, the National Museum which is Singapore\'s oldest museum presents innovative and inspiring exhibitions and programmes all year round. Join the people\'s museum and help us tell stories about Singapore and the World through exhibitions that combine accessibility and scholarship. You will have the opportunity to engage Singaporeans from different backgrounds to tell their stories, and work with a myriad of practitioners and professionals from different industries - academics, filmmakers, architects, technologists, flavourists, horticulturalists, photographers, engineers, designers, and many others.   • Work closely with the NMS curatorial team in conceptualising and developing storylines and themes for permanent galleries and special exhibitions, particularly in the area of community cultures and histories in Singapore from the pre-colonial period to the period of decolonisation and early years of Singapore\'s independence. This can include topics such as the early communities of Singapore prior to the arrival of the British, as well as socio-cultural history such as popular culture, food, film, music, entertainment, performing arts and ethnic-based traditions and practices in Singapore.
  • Work closely with collections managers, conservators, designers and related parties to set up and project manage exhibitions.
  • Active collaboration with other museum departments including education, programming, marketing, philanthropy and digital services.
  • Contribution to the development of the museum\'s curatorial and collecting strategies.
  • In-depth involvement in acquisition of new artefacts, maintaining relationships with donors, and securing loans of collections from other institutions and collectors.
  • Ongoing research and publications, with active public engagement through talks, tours and other forms of engagement.
Requirements
  • Possess a degree in History or related social sciences, with a strong interest and specialisation in Singapore history.
  • Preferably at least two years of relevant research or curatorial work and/or a Masters degree would be advantageous
  • Excellent research and writing abilities with proficiency in English. Proficiency in other languages would be advantageous.
  • Excellent engagement skills with reference to collaborating or co-creating with a variety of partners.
  • Strong organisational, project management and inter-personal skills, able to work independently and in a team.
