Assistant Manager, CoDE (Software & System Engineer) 11-month contract

The Centre for Digital Enablement (CoDE) drives digital transformation initiatives within SIT. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, CoDE enhances digital literacy and supports digital innovation across the campus. This includes applied learning initiatives, such as the Living Lab, SEED Digital, Digital Competency Corridor, and VR Classroom.
The Assistant Manager (Software & Systems Engineer) will support the Product Owner in developing, maintaining, and enhancing the Living Lab Operating System (LLOS)-a campus-wide digital platform connecting IoT systems, data, and learning applications. This role combines full-stack software engineering, multi-channel data integration, system administration, and mentorship to ensure continuity and quality in SIT's digital learning ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
A. LLOS Development & Delivery

  • Support the Product Owner in implementing new features, integrations, and system enhancements within LLOS.
  • Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js, Python, or similar technologies.
  • Support frontend development (React, Vue, Next.js) for dashboards, monitoring tools, or interactive modules (optional).
  • Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines from multiple sources, including APIs, IoT devices (MQTT), SFTP, and cloud transfers (e.g., AWS DataSync).
  • Integrate pipelines with databases (MySQL, MongoDB) and optimize performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Collaborate on system design, testing, and documentation following SIT's internal PM and SOP standards.
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux/Ubuntu server environments, including package management, networking, and basic security hardening.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and error-handling mechanisms to ensure reliable system operation.
  • Lead and mentor student developers (on IWSP/ITP, Student Helpers etc), providing guidance on coding standards, workflows, and best practices.
  • Maintain technical documentation, backlog, and sprint boards (e.g., Jira, Confluence, GitHub).
  • Step in as lead developer when student resources are unavailable to ensure project continuity.
B. Operational and Educational Support
  • Support CoDE's digital learning initiatives under DiCE, including SEED Digital, Digital Competency Corridor, and VR Classroom.
  • Assist in preparing and maintaining digital spaces for demonstrations, events, and partner activations.
  • Coordinate student helpers and ensure smooth operations of applied learning environments.
  • Document systems, data flows, and operational procedures for team knowledge and continuity.
  • Take initiative to identify improvement opportunities, propose solutions, and learn new technologies.
Skills & Job Requirements
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in Python, Node.js, and JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, Next.js).
  • Experience with APIs, data ingestion, or integration workflows.
  • Familiarity with databases such as MySQL or MongoDB.
  • Basic system administration on Linux/Ubuntu servers.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and understanding of cloud services for data ingestion and storage.
  • Advantageous: IoT devices/protocols (MQTT), SFTP workflows, and security best practices (TLS, IAM, system hardening).
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and CI/CD workflows.
Soft Skills
  • Self-starter with initiative, capable of taking ownership of tasks and independently solving problems.
  • Strong willingness to learn and adopt new technologies and tools.
  • Good problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with ability to mentor junior team members.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team environment.
