The Mathematics and Mathematics Education Academic Group (MME) at the NIE is part of the Singapore mathematics education ecology that has produced a world-class system for students of varied abilities. Our vision is to be a world-class symbiosis of mathematics educators and mathematicians. A mathematician educator is a teacher of mathematics who bases his/her pedagogy on a strong foundation of mathematics disciplinarity, learning theories and mathematics education research findings. Our mission is to nurture mathematician educators for Singapore and the world through research and exemplary teaching. MME staff engage in research in mathematics education and mathematics to meet the needs of teachers within a changing environment, upholding the mathematical rigour essential to a productive STEM education. We constantly seek innovative and research-informed ways of delivering mathematics content and pedagogy courses in an effort to develop best practices as we collaborate with educators in the schools.
