Job Summary:

As Assistant Vice President for Asia Pacific Healthcare Division, you will be responsible for underwriting a complex book of Healthcare Liability business comprised of physicians, hospitals & clinics, allied health, paramedic professionals and general/public liability insurance in over 20 different countries and jurisdictions across Asia Pacific. Key responsibility will be underwriting and managing the large and complex healthcare systems out of Australia by working together with our underwriting and claims teams in London, Singapore and Australia. You will be also empowered to develop SME market in Australia and introduce the best-in-class patient safety and risk management programmes to our insured doctors, hospitals and various other healthcare professionals with our Medico-Legal Consultant and Healthcare Risk Manager supporting you in these initiatives. Reinforcing our market leading position with these efforts, you will be fulfilling your responsibilities of meeting projected profitability, GWP, and expense goals, implementing proper underwriting disciplines/guidelines, marketing and servicing of existing and potential insureds.

Job Duties and Competencies:

• Underwrite and manage the large and complex hospitals and healthcare systems out of Australia by working together with our underwriting and claims teams in London, Singapore and Australia. Develop SME market in Australia.
• Work with the team in growing the Healthcare portfolio profitably across Asia Pacific.
• Work closely with our Medico-Legal Consultant and Healthcare Risk Manager to introduce the best-in-class patient safety and risk management programmes to our existing and potential insureds.Produce consistent gross and net underwriting profit.
• Consistently communicate and display Allied World Healthcare\xe2\x80\x99s brand values and key points of difference to the market through an open, can-do attitude, fostering collaboration, communication and professionalism.
• Execute approved business plan to establish and develop a balanced and diverse book of business in accordance with underwriting guidelines.
• Exercise proper underwriting pricing and discipline to meet profitability goals, complying with underwriting guidelines, systems and procedures.
• Maintain underwriting files in an orderly manner and in accordance with the underwriting guidelines.
• Interact with existing and prospective clients such as doctors and hospitals, lawyers in legal panels, brokers, re-insurers and other business partners in support of the business.
• Work with Actuarial, Claims, Operations, Finance, IT and other AW departments in partnership.
• Maintain high level of professionalism, integrity and trust.
• Other duties as may be assigned.

Essential Requirements:

• 7+ or more years of experience in writing Healthcare Liability / Medical Malpractice (general or professional liability experience may be considered) / Life Science in Australia and/or other similarly litigious jurisdictions.
• Strong knowledge of Healthcare Liability underwriting philosophy and basic fundamentals, techniques, and underwriting guidelines espoused by the company and in written form.
• Proven existing relationships with audiences throughout the insurance value chain including clients/buyers, client executives, brokers and leadership contacts.
• Mature, motivated self-starter, with strong organizational skills and ability to function independently with limited resources.
• Ability to work in conjunction with other functional departments.
• Strong fundamentals in pricing, portfolio analysis and management, and team management.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel as required.
