ACADEMIC FACULTY APPOINTMENT: The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine

An Associate / Assistant Professor of Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine is expected to contribute to the development of research and teaching at the School. He/She is expected to undertake high quality research in the area of Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience within the Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Programme, in line with the overarching research strategy of Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, in addition to any other duties as assigned by the Vice Dean, Research and Dean.

Key Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

  • The appointee will be expected to undertake high quality research in the area of Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience, in line with the research strategy of the School and in conjunction with other recent appointments, obtain competitive research funding and supervise research staff and students.
  • The appointee is expected to undertake teaching and educational responsibilities for the training of both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate research students. Teaching methods include extensive use of team-based learning and e-learning.
  • The appointee is expected to contribute to integration of the science relating to Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience into the MBBS curriculum and to ensure the delivery of excellence in teaching via the team-based delivery of the curriculum.
Primary Activities:
  • Undertake high quality research activities by sustaining a personal research plan, developing innovative research proposals and funding bids, managing and undertaking research activities, publishing in international peer reviewed journals, reviewing manuscripts and grant applications when appropriate.
  • Seek competitive grant and collaborative industry funding to develop a sustainable research programme.
  • Contribute to, support and develop teaching and educational activity at undergraduate level and supervise undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to, support and develop teaching and educational activity at undergraduate and graduate level and supervise undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Develop and support research projects (including interdisciplinary) with other faculty in the field of Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience at LKCMedicine and across the wider NTU community. These may include research that pertains all health aspects relating to Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience.
  • Supervise and mentor research staff and junior faculty members as appropriate.
  • Participate in academic committees and meet other administrative requirements as appropriate.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
  • MBBS/MD and/or PhD degree(s)
  • Relevant postdoctoral or clinical experience
  • Excellent record of research with significant scientific output (e.g., publications, grants, and patents), productivity and impact in the field of Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience
  • Experience in working with microbiome and/or metagenomic data would be an advantage
Management and Teamwork:
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work co-operatively with medical and non-medical staff
  • Ability to supervise research staff and students
Communicating and Influencing:
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to motivate others
  • Ability to work as a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students
Desirable attributes:
  • Experience and/or desire to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate education and training.
  • Track record of having supervised PhD students.
  • Fully conversant with patient-centred approach to modern medicine and the use of new technologies in both education and patient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and develop teams and to create networks at both a national and international level.
  • Understanding of the academic and administrative needs of internationally recognised universities.
Time Commitment

The level of effort for this appointment is at 1.0 full time equivalent (FTE) employment.
