We are seeking a highly accomplished and results-oriented Associate Director of Engineering to lead the end-to-end development, strategy, and operations of our critical application portfolio. This portfolio spans our customer-facing products (Cast.sg, Insurance Application, Regional Rewards) and our foundational backend systems (Open Platform). The ideal candidate will be a technical leader, strategic thinker, and exceptional people manager, capable of scaling teams, modernizing architecture, and driving execution across a complex multi-application environment.
Make an Impact by:

• Technical Strategy & Architecture

• Define and drive the technical roadmap and architectural vision for the entire application ecosystem (Customer-facing and Platform).
• Ensure the applications are built for scalability, high availability, security, and performance on the AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Lead the adoption of best-in-class engineering practices, including CI/CD, Observability, and automated testing.
• Deep expertise in the core tech stack: Java, React, Next.js, AWS, PostgreSQL, and SQL.

• Engineering Leadership & Management

• Directly manage, mentor, and coach multiple engineering teams and Senior Engineering Managers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Oversee the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), ensuring timely, high-quality, and predictable delivery of features and projects.
• Drive talent acquisition, retention, and performance management for the engineering department.

• Strategic Relationship Management (Vendor & Stakeholder)

• Vendor Management:

• Own the strategic relationship and performance of key technology and outsourcing partners, including negotiating and managing Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and contractual deliverables.
• Conduct thorough vendor due diligence and risk assessments to ensure external partners align with our security, compliance, and long-term technical strategy.
• Drive cost optimization and value extraction from vendor contracts for core services (e.g., AWS spend, proprietary platform licenses).
• Stakeholder Management:

• Act as the primary technical interface for executive leadership, Product Management, Finance, and regional business heads.
• Map, prioritize, and manage competing expectations across the application portfolio (Open Platform vs. Cast.sg vs. Insurance).
• Ensure clear, concise, and timely communication of technical risks, progress, and strategic decisions, translating technical concepts into business impact.
• Portfolio Oversight

• Open Platform: Strategically evolve the core services and APIs that power all consumer applications, ensuring robustness and ease of integration.
• Customer-Facing Applications (Cast.sg, Insurance, Regional Rewards): Direct the teams responsible for the front-end user experience, feature development, and integration with regional partner systems.

Skills for Success:

• Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years in an Engineering Leadership role.
• Proven track record of managing and scaling engineering teams.
• Demonstrable success in strategic vendor and external partner management, including contract negotiation and performance monitoring.
• Deep, hands-on understanding of our core technology stack: Java, modern JavaScript frameworks (React/Next.js), microservices, and relational databases (PostgreSQL/SQL).
• Extensive experience designing, deploying, and operating applications in AWS (e.g., ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3).
• Demonstrated expertise in the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including Agile/Scrum methodologies.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical strategies to executive and non-technical audiences.1
