Investment Services Private Markets

We manage deal structuring, due diligence and closing. We provide financial operations to GIC\'s private equity, infrastructure, and real estate assets, as well as tax structuring, corporate holding structures, valuations, and financial reporting.

Tax

You will help to provide tax support to the GIC group and investments made by GIC. Our coverage includes enterprise tax, public markets, and private markets tax.

What impact can you make in this role?

You will be part of a team that provides investment services on private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and cross-strategy investments.

What will you do as an Associate, Tax Governance?

Reporting to the VP, Tax Governance, the individual will predominantly be involved in tax advisory, with a focus on supporting the team in managing and providing tax advice and creating tax policy frameworks for the entire GIC group to guide:

  • How GIC companies would conduct their businesses;
  • How GIC investment professionals would carry out investment activities; and
  • How GIC investments would be structured efficiently.
  • Your responsibilities may include the following:
  • Monitor changes in tax laws or administrative practice and analyse implications to GIC with effective communication to the relevant internal stakeholders;
  • Provide proactive support to the team in the delivery of tax governance initiatives/projects (e.g. engagement with key tax authorities/advisors, BEPS, permanent establishment matters, tax treaty matters, etc.), focusing on building up our tax governance framework/processes and developing enduring tax positions to allow GIC to keep pace with the increasingly complex tax environment;
  • Identify issues/improvements to tax business processes and recommend pragmatic solutions for stronger tax governance oversight on the way GIC conducts its businesses/activities;
  • Engage and collaborate internally within the Tax team and other stakeholders (within and outside the department) to operationalize the relevant tax frameworks, policies and positions;
  • Support in the delivery of tax risk reporting to the Board, management committees, and various internal stakeholders;
  • Participate in the Tax team\'s technology initiatives to digitalize business processes and effectively leverage available technology tools to deliver the abovementioned workstreams; and
  • Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships within the Tax team and across other GIC departments.
What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?
  • At least 3-4 years of international tax experience
  • Demonstrates strong writing, analytical, and oral presentation skills
  • Can adapt communication styles based upon the audience
  • Has strong project management and organizational skills, is flexible, and can independently and efficiently progress multiple assignments
  • Has excellent attention to detail and consistently high levels of accuracy
  • Strives to innovate and follow best practices but is highly attuned to the need for commercial solutions
  • Strong end-user computing skills and works well in digitalized environment
  • Is energized by ideas and novel experiences and will encourage a learning environment
