The Company:

Our client is a fintech/tech unicorn with more than 20 lawyers regionally. This replacement position encompasses various responsibilities across Group legal work, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and BU specific legal activities, such as B2B merchant contracts. It provides a unique opportunity to shape and guide key business units and to make a meaningful impact and thrive in a fast-paced, innovative setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Internal Collaboration: Engage intimately with various departments like across Gen Z focused merchants/payments BU, and other BU legal functions
  • Merchant Contract Oversight: Negotiate and finalize agreements with Atome merchants, putting a strong emphasis on reviewing terms and conditions.
  • Partner & Vendor Agreement Management: Oversee and negotiate contracts with partners related to payments, as well as with outsourced vendors and service providers.
  • Strategic Market Guidance: Offer legal direction on projects related to market entry and corporate restructuring.
  • Compliance Coordination: Act closely with Compliance to oversee licensing and handle various regulatory matters.
  • Group-Level Transaction Support: Assist the Senior Legal Counsel in handling high-level transactions such as financings, joint ventures, partnerships, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Contract Adaptation: Implement necessary modifications to our template contracts in response to regulatory shifts or new business/product necessities.
  • Governance Initiatives: Actively partake in projects related to internal governance within the Group.
  • Legal Updates & Proactive Measures: Maintain awareness of legal trends in the APAC region, initiating timely and relevant business actions.
  • Business-Centric Advice: Deliver grounded and commercially viable guidance to internal stakeholders, focusing on efficiency and clarity.
Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of post-qualification experience, preferably from in-house or private practice.
  • Industry background in payments, financial services, fintech, or e-commerce will be advantageous. 2-3 years in TMT, regulatory, or M&A, and experience in commercial contract handling.
  • Ability to communicate with non-legal business stakeholders and juggle multiple demands.
  • Collaborative mindset and excitement for a fast-paced start-up culture.
  • Adaptability, with a growth-oriented approach for personal and team development.
  • Strong conversational Mandarin required. Malay, or Bahasa could be beneficial.
  • Immediate availability or shorter notice period preferred.
