Automation Engineer

This role will provide the incumbent exposure to a manufacturing plant environment, reporting into the engineering department. The engineer will be involved in the end-to-end process of asset lifecycle management of production and utilities equipment as well as being accountable for equipment reliability. It will be a challenging and interesting role where the engineer gets to improve the existing maintenance regime around electrical, instrumentation and automation controls of the equipment, involvement in new projects and supports the digitalization initiatives undertaken by the Engineering team.

The Position

  • Provides specialist support towards electrical, instrumentation and control/automation in a GMP manufacturing environment.
  • Supervises and guides a team of technicians including contractors on troubleshooting and decision making. Develops troubleshooting skills in areas of electrical, instrumentation and control/automation within the engineering organization
  • Responsible for maintenance of plant electrical distribution systems
  • Responsible for maintenance and support of Automation & Control system including Programmable logic control / Instrumentation troubleshooting
  • Develops and owns calibration program for plant instruments
  • Supports utilities equipment operations and maintenance to ensure uninterrupted supply
  • Utilize CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) and interfaces, liaises between internal customers/production supervisors and propose/execute agreed work plan and schedule. Prioritizes and manages backlog work orders
  • Develops, executes and improve preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance regime
  • Ensures proper permitting system site-wide and approve applicable permits for the site. This includes maintenance and projects related works done at site
  • Assists in spare parts inventory development for the site including procurement, registration and standardization of the parts
  • Manages electrical shutdowns including statutory and regulatory inspections.
  • Ensures the applicable documentation related to OEM manuals, history recording, SOPs and Work Instructions are followed.
  • Active participation in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and collaboration with key stakeholders from Manufacturing, Quality and Warehouse teams
  • Participates in management of change process and working closely with stakeholders
  • Lead or supports capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects execution
  • Improve work processes and systems that delivers reliability and efficiency.
  • Ensure all operation and maintenance works are carried out in a safe manner.
  • Accountable for the on-the-job safety and health of contractors, vendors under direct supervision.
  • Lead in continuous improvement efforts/ projects and responsible for support and execution of automation qualification such as FAT, SAT, Commissioning, Validation etc.
  • Responsible for developing Standard Operating Procedures, implementing of maintenance program for the Manufacturing Control Systems.
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

The Ideal Candidate
  • Degree in Electrical / Electronic with minimum 3 years of relevant experience or Diploma in Automation/Instrumentation /Electrical Engineering with minimum 5 years of relevant experience preferably in process industries such as chemical, pharmaceutical or nutritional
  • Experience in PLCs, (Siemens, Omron etc.) equipment automation and maintenance of process plant, BMS (Building Management System); maintaining general instruments used in process plant, switchgears, MCC and electrical distribution systems
  • Is a Self-starter, analytical, strong troubleshooting skills and team player
  • Good contractor management skills, inspires continuous improvement
