As a Barclays AVP \xe2\x80\x93 Banking - Debt Legal, you will be a lawyer in the APAC regions (excluding Japan) providing legal risk management to the Barclays International business, with particular emphasis on supporting the Barclays Bank PLC Corporate and Investment Bank with corporate loans, leveraged finance, trade finance, secondary loan trading and special situations. Your responsibility includes legal advice to product specialists and relationship directors in Barclays International working on transactions involving lending and trade products. What will you be doing?

  • Providing support and legal advice to the business teams by advising on structuring loan transactions in various jurisdictions, reviewing and drafting legal documentation
  • Assisting transaction management on legal documentation and managing external counsel
  • Coordinating, supervising and reviewing legal analysis undertaken by local counsel in respect of relevant legal issues
  • Providing support and legal advice to the Special Situations team by reviewing draft documentations for the relevant banking products
  • Supervising and managing loan default, debt recovery, security enforcement, work-outs and restructurings and related processes
  • Assisting the origination teams in Asia Pacific with reviewing and drafting documentation in relation to mandate letters, fee letters and confidentiality agreements
  • Working closely with the Banking Legal team to assist with transaction due diligence and documentation execution
  • Accountable for managing external counsel in jurisdictions across APAC and managing related costs in connection with Debt transactions

What we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for:
  • Qualified English law solicitor/attorney (or other common law jurisdiction)
  • At least 2 years PQE (UK equivalent) in the banking and finance department of a top tier English or Singapore law firm or international bank or financial institution
  • Deal experience in syndicated cross border lending into a number of Asia-Pacific jurisdictions
  • Expertise in project finance, structured trade finance and/or capital markets (bond or note issuance)

Skills that will help you in the role:
  • Conversant in the use and negotiation of LMA/APLMA loan and secondary trading documentation
  • Experience and good knowledge of cross border lending and security issues in a number of Asia-Pacific jurisdictions
  • Must have drafting skills and be highly organised, structured and professional
  • Must have a genuine interest in this area of the law and demonstrate keen observation of topical developments in cross border lending throughout Asia
