Job Description


The Legal & Regulatory Change Management (LRCM) and Office of Legal Obligations (OLO) initiatives are firm-wide, global initiatives that bring together the expertise of Legal, Lines of Business (LoBs), Control Management, Compliance, Risk and other key control functions, to proactively manage regulatory changes in our operations and allow us to trace end-to-end connections between laws, rules and regulations on the one hand, and our policies and procedures and processes that demonstrate compliance on the other.

The Singapore-based role is within the J.P. Morgan Payments Control Management team. Activities involved include:

  • Reviewing and assessing regulatory event notifications (RENs) for business impact
  • Working extensively with business stakeholders, Legal, Compliance and functional groups to investigate, co-ordinate and collate the required supporting documentation.
  • Considerable exposure to both functional partners and the business across the APAC region
  • Impact assessment and mapping of legal obligations to business and operational procedures or other supporting documentation
Roles and Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Engagement with Control Managers, Legal, Compliance and business managers across the APAC region to ensure obligations and RENs are assessed and dispositioned accurately and efficiently
  • Partnership with colleagues to ensure global consistency and quality of output from the team
  • Responding and resolving items identified by CIB OLO/LRCM Quality Assurance team and other reviewers
  • Tracking and resolution of items that impact LRCM, OLO and business timelines
  • Participation in regulatory change forums for the primary APAC jurisdictions
Minimum Qualifications and Key Skills

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in financial institutions in business controls, operational risk, business management, compliance, legal, audit or similar function is required. Experience of covering banking and/or payments related business is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Finance, Economics or other related discipline
  • Knowledge of the APAC financial services regulatory landscape including key regulators and regulations
  • Comfortable with and adept at reading and interpreting legal and regulatory texts as a layperson (NB: formal legal qualifications are beneficial but not required)
  • Relevant experience/knowledge of financial products and services for the Payments business and for financial regulations
  • Strong project management skills and ability to instill structure, process and accountability to meet delivery targets whilst maintaining quality standards
  • Excellent business judgement and organisational management skills, particularly the ability to work under pressure, handle high volume of throughput without compromising quality and proactively identify issues early
  • Effective business analytical skills to enable efficient, accurate and objective decision making
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, comfort with working and partnering with people at all levels, across all functional areas and internationally. Able to motivate and gain consensus among peers and stakeholders to drive critical initiatives to completion
  • Professional, self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment with a proven track record of execution against deliverables.
  • Detail-oriented, with a highly disciplined approach to process and quality control
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
