Climate Change Research Intern (jan 2024 Intake)

Singapore, Singapore

Job Description

Join us on a mission to save the planet!

Reversing the impact of climate change is one of the world\'s biggest challenges. And businesses have a responsibility to lead the way. While individual consumer choices are important, over 80% of all the emissions reductions necessary for the world to reach Net-Zero, require business-level action. But despite the growing momentum and ambition from companies around the world to set Net-Zero goals, there are significant challenges to delivering on these ambitions. Business leaders don\'t really know how they will get there. And the very first step, of getting emissions measurement right, is hard.

Terrascope is a smart carbon management and accounting platform that empowers corporations to decarbonise their operations, portfolios and supply chains in a trusted, confident, and secure manner. We are on a journey to build digital tools and analytics, datasets and algorithms, and an ecosystem of technical expertise and partnerships needed for companies to optimise their climate strategy.

Terrascope is backed by one of the world\'s largest food and agri companies and global leader in climate action and sustainability. With their significant strategic advantage and secure funding, the venture is uniquely positioned to drive profit with purpose; driving decarbonization in supply chains while generating outsized financial returns.

We are seeking a Climate Change Research Intern to support the Sustainability team with our research priorities and to synthesise this research into well document and cited internal knowledge assets that are shared across teams. \

Key research priorities are:

  • Sectoral decarbonisation strategies: researching and documenting methods and actions that aim to reduce or eliminate the emissions of greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change in the following sectors: food & agriculture, consumer and retail, and technology and media
  • Climate change metrics: corporate GHG emissions reports can vary by region and country. As a platform serving clients globally, this research project aims to compare the emerging requirements for corporate GHG reporting, from global standards such as the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), to national legislation such as Singapore\'s mandatory climate disclosures
  • State of climate regulations: this project will research climate change policies being implemented by governments and organisations that aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These regulations can include emissions reduction targets, monitoring reporting and verification of corporate carbon accounting, sector-specific requirements, and carbon pricing mechanisms, among other strategies.
As a Climate Change Research Intern, you will assist with:
  • Designing research approaches and conducting research and literature reviews
  • Analysing data and research findings
  • Compiling research into knowledge assets in the form of internal reports (pages in Notion) and presentations (Google Slide decks)
  • Providing other support to the Sustainability team as needed
Key requirements
  • Pursuing or completed a degree in sustainability, economics, or related field
  • Strong research skills and structured approach to conduct analysis and gather data on climate change-related topics
  • Inquisitive and learning mindset
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as analytical thinking abilities, to effectively compile research into knowledge assets
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and deliver high-quality work with great accountability and reliability
  • Passion about addressing climate change
As a Climate Change Research Intern, you will not only contribute to the team\'s efforts but also gain a range of valuable skills and experiences:
  • Expose to a professional environment: Work in a professional setting with a hybrid work arrangement, participate in internal and potentially external engagements, and understand how to work independently and with a team while adhering to the expected work ethics
  • Develop research skills: Learn how to develop effective research methodologies, hone your ability to design comprehensive approaches, and conduct thorough literature reviews
  • Improve critical thinking: Gain hands-on experience in analyzing data and research findings, developing your analytical skills, and ability to draw meaningful conclusions
  • Improve communication and presentation skills: Synthesize research outcomes into internal reports using platforms such as Notion and Google Slides; present complex information clearly and effectively, with a clear storyline, to internal audience
  • Collaborate with teams: Understand the dynamics of working within a sustainability team and collaborate with other teams within the organization, developing your teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Build a professional network: Connect with professionals in the field of climate change and sustainability, potentially opening doors to future opportunities
  • Deliver impacts: Work with a team of diverse and highly driven individuals for a meaningful cause and create positive impacts by empowering internal teams and clients to address the challenge of climate change.
