We are looking for a results-focused candidate with extensive experience in strategic biopharmaceutical communications for the position of Communications & Corporate Affairs Head, Growth & Emerging Markets (GEM), based in Singapore. This position reports directly to the President, GEM and is part of the GEM Leadership Team (GEMLT). The GEM Business Unit manages a region of ~30 countries and territories across South America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia (excluding Japan and China).

The Communications & Corporate Affairs Head for GEM serves as the primary communication, public affairs and patient advocacy professional covering executive, corporate and product portfolio needs and opportunities across the GEM region. The role is responsible for creating and implementing region-wide communication, public affairs and patient advocacy strategies, as well as providing leadership and support to the region\xe2\x80\x99s communication, public affairs and patient advocacy professionals at the local level to promote and defend Takeda\xe2\x80\x99s reputation and business. In delivering on these responsibilities, the role oversees a team of four direct reports (two in communications, one in vaccines public policy, one in patient advocacy) based in the Singapore GEM HQ.

Across the three domains of communications, public affairs and patient advocacy, the role will focus on:

  • Regional strategy to guide regional and local tactics driving GEM business objectives at the local and regional levels
  • Executive communications for GEM President to ensure internal and external stakeholders are clear on GEM strategy and priorities, positions on issues, and Takeda\xe2\x80\x99s value proposition in the region
  • Capability building at the local- and area-level to develop \xe2\x80\x9con the ground\xe2\x80\x9d skills and expertise
  • Support for local- and area-level tactics and execution to maintain high-quality and consistent implementation across a diverse set of markets
In addition, this role sits on multiple Global Portfolio Division (GPD, the Division overseeing GEM) and Global leadership teams, and is the primary liaison to corporate functions, such as Investor Relations.

Major focus & responsibilities:

Regional strategy
  • Develop GEM communication, public affairs and patient advocacy strategy and manage budget
  • Drive and support commercial, therapeutic area and reputational objectives with external stakeholders across the region
  • Track plan KPIs
  • Provide insights on and respond to trends and developments that impact strategies and execution across communication, public affairs and patient advocacy domains
  • Conduct risk assessments based on political, public health and regulatory developments
  • Prepare holistic crisis response plans
Executive communications
  • Develop and implement an executive engagement plan for the GEM President built around annual GEM objectives and priorities
  • Serve as chief communication & corporate affairs strategist and counsellor to the GEM President and GEMLT
  • Oversee the planning and execution of region internal communications and events, such as Town Halls and HQ organizational announcements
Capability building at the local- and area-level
  • Build/enhance capabilities, conduct training, coach and mentor local and area teams engaged in communications, public affairs and advocacy
  • Conduct regular assessments of capabilities and needs across the local markets
  • Identify formal and informal mentoring and development opportunities to support the region\xe2\x80\x99s communications, public affairs and patient advocacy professionals
Support for local- and area-level tactics and execution
  • Provide strategic direction and support to local and area teams in the creation and execution of local external engagement plans and tactics to support product, therapeutic area and corporate reputation objectives
  • Develop and update GEM SOPs, tools, and ways of working between HQ and local- and area-levels
  • Act as liaison and link between local teams and GPD and Global teams
Top GEM communications, public affairs, and patient advocacy executive
  • Lead and develop the team of direct reports
  • Assign clear roles and responsibilities to the team and provide oversight of execution against annual plans
  • Ensure ample opportunities for continued professional development
  • Serve as key GEM spokesperson, potential 1-2 key topics to champion externally
  • Actively engage as a member of the GEM LT and understand and prioritize key business needs
  • Contribute to the development of GPD and Global strategies and ensure that GEM priorities are integrated and adequately prioritized
  • Participate in and contribute to various GPD and Global teams, forums and projects, ensuring that GEM interests are voiced and balanced with GPD and Global priorities
  • Manage relevant vendor relationships and associated regional budget
What you should bring
  • 10+ years of experience in communication positions in the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry, including experience at the region level
  • Strategic communications adviser, with deep experience in complex corporate (external and internal), financial, and regulatory environment
  • Public affairs, as well as consumer activation experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of pricing strategies and payor environment, healthcare dynamics and public policies in GEM markets
  • Outstanding cross-cultural team management skills
  • High-energy, results oriented leader with an entrepreneurial attitude and experience
  • Successful record of building and managing a team with regional responsibilities
  • Hands-on approach and sharp focus on customer satisfaction
