HAMERKOP IS AN ENABLER - AN INDEPENDENT TECHNICAL CONSULTANCY OPERATING WORLDWIDE.
Headquartered in London & with offices in Singapore, HAMERKOP supports carbon project developers in the Global South and the carbon market ecosystem, to enable emission reductions associated with strong environmental and social integrity. We support energy access and nature-based solutions projects (e.g., forestry and agriculture).
HAMERKOP is one of the very few recognised and independent technical service providers on the carbon market and we mainly work in developing countries, where we provide technical consulting services around 3 main pillars:
1. PROJECT: certification and implementation of projects contributing to the fight against climate change. We help mitigation projects to certify so they can partially or fully be financed by the sale of assets on the carbon markets. We support projects from early conception to early-stage feasibility studies, drafting of carbon certification studies and documents, and support the implementation of activities as well as monitor their ongoing impacts.
2. MARKET: independent expert advice on the carbon markets. We provide (i) technical pre-investment risk-based due diligence to carbon credit and project sponsors; (ii) strategic advice to organisations looking for positioning on the carbon market; and (iii) educational support on the structure, state, and trends of the carbon markets.
3. POLICY: climate change policy and finance. We help countries in the Global South to formulate and revise their climate change strategies and roadmaps. We work with international organisations and government authorities to align their policy, technical and institutional frameworks with the requirements of the Paris Agreement's carbon and climate finance mechanisms.
HAMERKOP works at the intersection of the public and private sectors, with governments, international organisations, NGOs and private companies and is increasingly playing a crucial role in the Singaporean and Southeast Asian carbon market ecosystem.
We help our clients design, implement, manage and monitor projects and activities in the energy (e.g., clean cooking, transportation, energy efficiency, etc.) and land use sectors (e.g., forestry, agriculture, biochar, etc.), that deliver measurable social and environmental impacts and are eligible to climate finance mechanisms.
Based on a strong reputation for providing quality services, HAMERKOP has embarked on a growth strategy and is looking for consultants to grow its team to 22 by the end of the year. This position is for a consultant with some experience in relation to nature-based solutions (i.e. forestry, agriculture, land management) project development in Southeast Asia.

Role Description - Responsibilities
This newly created consultant position will consist of growing and delivering a diverse range of stimulating technical and strategic consultancy assignments in relation to forestry, land use and management and biochar.
What you will do:

• Collaborate closely with HAMERKOP's consultants on studies, analytics, assessments, and technical reports related to forestry management, conservation, and restoration projects across Southeast Asia (including Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia).
• Support the delivery of client assignments, including the formulation of emission reduction projects, conducting technical feasibility studies, performing due diligence on carbon projects, and assisting with project certification under major carbon standards (such as Verra, Gold Standard, Plan Vivo, and ERS) for NGOs and private developers.
• Provide strategic advice on voluntary carbon markets for NGOs and private sector clients, and contribute to the feasibility and design of climate change mitigation projects for international organizations and governments.
• Drive business development activities by identifying new opportunities, building networks, drafting technical and commercial proposals, preparing concept notes, liaising with partners, sourcing technical experts, and following up with prospects.
• Build and maintain strong external relationships with project teams, clients, and partner organizations, serving as a key point of contact.
• Stay up to date with rapidly evolving climate change policies, finance mechanisms, and relevant international and national legislation (e.g., outcomes from COPs).
• Promote HAMERKOP's brand and technical credibility by creating and sharing insightful blog content and thought leadership.

Who you are
Required

• MSc in a technical field related to forestry, environmental science, conservation, or ecology.
• 2-5 years of relevant professional experience in climate, forestry, or conservation projects.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to produce well-presented, error-free reports and deliverables.
• Fluent in spoken and written English, as well as a second language relevant to Southeast Asia.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Positive mindset, good humour, and a collaborative team spirit.
• Commitment to supporting colleagues and contributing to a dynamic, growing business.

Desired

• Right to work in Singapore.
• Prior experience working in Southeast Asia on climate change, energy, or forestry projects.
• Previous consulting experience, including client and project management.
• Degree in forest engineering and management.
• Knowledge of greenhouse gas emission accounting and familiarity with carbon markets.
• Experience with GIS tools and applications.

Term of the position
This position is offered as a permanent position.
The candidate must be based in Singapore.
Location of position
The role will mostly be based in our office in Robinson Road, Singapore (with the possibility to work from home from time to time) and the successful applicant may be required to travel internationally (e.g. approx. 10% of your time) on assignments or to meet with team and partners.

We work with international organisations and government authorities for the design and evaluation of climate change adaptation or mitigation projects (including ecosystem conservation and restoration), programs and policies, eligible for climate finance.
