The Columns Gallery has an immediate opening for a part-time or full-time Gallery Assistant as well as internship opportunities.
Responsibilities
Promptly and warmly welcoming guests to the gallery
Taking initiative to create a working knowledge of our internal gallery functions to best fulfill the needs of the gallery
Supporting daily tasks including emailing, producing invoices and contracts, cataloguing and archive management
Understanding the packing and transport process of artworks
Contribute to the marketing and promotion of collections, exhibitions and activities
Generating new online content for websites, social media and digital platforms, developing writing, communication and digital skills
Preparing artworks for client or gallery viewings including installing artworks and preparing viewing space
Carrying out exhibition-specific research and administrating events, making direct contact with artists and event organisers
Supporting the director in providing opportunities for emerging artists to work with the gallery, curating new exhibitions and managing its existing collections
Knowledge, Skills, Experience
Essential
Have a strong interest in the contemporary art market
Excellent written communication skills
Curious and keen to learn about the inner workings of a contemporary gallery
Have thorough knowledge of Microsoft/Outlook and database programs.
Strong administrative skills including but not limited to answering and directing phone calls, managing both internal and external email correspondence, responding to public inquiries, and working directly with staff and clients
Knowledge of and experience in a range of social media and digital platforms
Willingness to learn and get involved in a variety of tasks
Highly organised and a motivated multi-tasker
Ability to work to flexibly and under pressure
Reliable and professional
Desirable
A background in the arts (art history, art management, fine arts and higher art education)
Prior experience within the Gallery or Fine Art Shipping industry is desirable, but not required
Proficient in Photoshop and other graphics programmes
