Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the NMS curatorial team in conceptualising and developing storylines and themes for permanent galleries and special exhibitions, particularly in the area of post-war to contemporary Singapore history. This can include socio-cultural history such as popular culture, film, music, entertainment, performing arts, and ethnic-based traditions and practices in Singapore, as well as areas of contemporary interest such as Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s urban development and environment.
  • Work closely with collections managers, conservators, designers and related parties to set up and project manage exhibitions
  • Active collaboration with other museum departments including education, programming, marketing and philanthropy.
  • Contribution to the development of the museum\xe2\x80\x99s curatorial and collecting strategies, especially in post-war collections and contemporary collecting.
  • In-depth involvement in acquisition of new artefacts, maintaining relationships with donors, and securing loans of collections from other institutions and collectors.
  • Ongoing research and publications, with active public engagement through talks, tours and other forms of engagement
Requirements
  • Background in History or related social sciences, with a strong interest and specialisation in Singapore history.
  • Preferably at least four years of relevant research or curatorial work would be advantageous
  • Excellent research and writing abilities with proficiency in English. Proficiency in other languages would be advantageous
  • Excellent engagement skills with reference to collaborating or co-creating with a variety of partners
  • Strong organisational, project management and inter-personal skills, able to work independently and in a team.
