Job Description




The National University of Singapore invites applications for the role of Research Fellow with the Heat Resilience & Performance Centre (HRPC), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The HRPC is a first-of-its-kind research centre, established at the NUS, to spearhead and conduct research and development to better enable the future challenges arising from climate change & extreme heat. Appointments will be made on a two-year contract basis, with the possibility of extension.

Purpose of the post

The Research Fellow who will play a key role in driving the development, execution and analysis of research aimed at addressing the challenges of training and operating in rising ambient temperatures. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary group comprising exercise and thermal physiologists, data scientists, biomedical engineers and researchers. This role will provide you with a unique opportunity to be a part of the team looking to generate fundamental and forward-looking solutions to working in the heat.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The main duties and of responsibilities will include but not limited to the following: - * Work closely with research PIs to develop new research ideas and ensure the successful and timely completion of the project(s);

  • Design research protocols based on the research agenda, drawing upon previous literature and research best practices (qualitative and quantitative, including lab and outfield studies);
  • Lead and train the research team(s);
  • Project manage and execute the required data collection and research plans;
  • Establish and manage large databases;
Main Duties and Responsibilities * Interpret and analyse data;
  • Generate reports and present data to relevant stakeholders;
  • Generate conference presentations and papers for submission to peer reviewed journals;
  • Collaborate across teams, contributing to multiple research projects at once;
  • Communicate with stakeholders to understand business challenges and potential solutions; and
  • Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.
Qualifications

A minimum qualification of a Master\'s or Doctorate degree in Exercise Science, Physiology, Data Science, or equivalent is required. Candidates with strong data science and analytics background and keen to delve into heat health research are strongly encouraged to apply as well). Proficiency in statistics, data analysis and visualisation software (e.g. SPSS, Power BI), and computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, data management and online meeting tools) would be required as well.

In addition, the role will require the following job relevant experience or attributes: * Keen interest in the area of heat health and human performance
  • Proficient in qualitative research
  • Proficient in data analysis tools in quantitative research
  • Strong background with extensive experience leading research projects would be an advantage
  • Proven knowledge of data collection methods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good track record of international publications in human research
