A*STAR is seeking to appoint a Deputy Director/Director for the Clinical Nutrition Research Centre (CNRC). Set up as a joint venture with the National University of Singapore, CNRC is an integral part of the newly established SIFBI. The candidate will be an internationally recognized Scientist, to lead and direct CNRC in contributing to SIFBI's mission. The applicant will be an accomplished scientist with extensive peer reviewed publications and will be responsible in leading the conduct of clinical trials to meet regulatory and product registration requirements. Importantly, the candidate will engage in multidisciplinary and collaborative research to drive nutrition projects from ideation-to-product/ process realization and ultimately commercialization, leveraging on SIFBI's other capability groups such as food process engineering, biotransformation, and discovery.
The Deputy Director/Director will also be responsible for the development of future research in the interface of nutrition and food science, and help shape policies that tackle food security, human nutrition, and the development of new foods to meet the Singapore '30 by 30' vision. The aim of this position is to expand and integrate human nutrition within SIFBI in relation to food science, human nutrition, food process engineering, and human health.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide expert scientific leadership in developing a strategic focus for research in human nutrition relevant to SIFBI's industrial and competitive research grant funding, aligned with national research priorities.
Develop research that integrates nutritional science with ongoing research in food science, food process engineering, food structure, biotransformation and fermentation.
To contribute to SIFBI's research roadmap, strategy, portfolio and talent development as a key member of senior management.
Actively and strategically forge collaborations by working closely with industry and academia to build and strengthen relationships.
Develop novel and new ideas at the interface of nutrition and food that is relevant to the Asian consumer.
Mentor and nurture scientific staff (eg Research Scientists, Fellows) to maximize their productivity and output.
Job Requirements:
Educated to PhD level in Nutrition, Physiology or Food Science (or other relevant subjects) with a minimum of 15 years' experience in either industry or academia.
Proven track record in leading teams and undertaking research with evidence of successful research grant awards and industry funding
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong knowledge of data management, statistics and computing
Extensive experience in clinical trials, experimental design, and data interpretation
Ability to provide nutrition advice to industry, government agencies, and other statutory boards
Proven skills to translate nutritional science to product development and product commercialization
Ability to deliver results in a timely and comprehensive manner
