Job Description

As a Project Leader within New Product Innovation (NPI) you will have responsibility of leading a team of a dynamic engineers to help meet and exceed the requirements of specific critical projects. You will be working closely with Research specialists and downstream RDD teams to create and develop new technology, product formats and business cases for projects in our portfolio. Typically, you will be accountable for the development key-to-vision technologies and features on a project that drive new Dyson IP and strengthen our portfolio. Working with your project team, you are empowered as the decisionmaker to balance technical risks, championing the product vision and driving timely delivery. You’ll be part of a new chapter for NPI as we establish a new chapter for our Project teams in Singapore, building up the NPI footprint along with Global Design and Product Experience team. This is a great opportunity to build the team from scratch and this role will play a pivot role in building the environment and spirit of NPI.

About the role

• Lead diverse, multi-disciplined teams to input to and deliver the product vision
• Accountable for the delivery of key pieces of complex technology that help to define the specification of future products
• Accountable for delivering projects to RDD Operating Model milestones within set timelines, applying a high level of technical rigour
• Lead both short and long-term operational strategies for delivery for the project and budget
• Demonstrate deep knowledge across a variety of technical areas and provide technical leadership to the multi-disciplined team
• Analyse test results, summarise and communicate these with both technical and non-technical colleagues
• Demonstrate a methodical approach in design reviews, flushing-out potential derail-ers early
• Mentor and inspire the project team towards shared goals, identifying, building and utilising their skills
• Role-model presentation and communication best practice during project reviews
• Manage and influence senior stakeholders throughout the project milestone process
• Define plans, monitor progress and report on technical risks
• Challenge and develop Dyson engineering practices to continuously improve design quality
• Take an active, hands-on role to ensure that all engineering problems are resolved thoroughly
• Lead the collaboration with different teams across multiple geographical locations and time zones

About you

• A degree in a relevant engineering or science discipline or equivalent
• Passionate about Dyson products and a fearless, prolific problem solver
• Inquisitive and self-critical to better self and others
• Sound understanding of advanced mechanical/product design principles and the development of products and technologies through prototyping and testing
• Experience of extensive leadership experience in a high pace environment
• Experience of interacting and building relationships with senior stakeholders
• Proven ability to communicate through a variety of media
• Ability to plan, prioritise and co-ordinate with work of others
• Technical and personal credibility to work effectively in cross-functional design teams throughout the project development cycle
• Proven experience of delivering creative design solutions that improve upon existing product designs
• A creative and considered approach to problem solving, following clear design processes
• Good commercial awareness with pragmatic approach to balance cost and value
