We are seeking a

Development Manager

to join our

M Renewables team in Japan

, marking the launch of our operations in this exciting new market. This is a unique opportunity to play a foundational role in establishing our solar (PV) project pipeline and driving our growth strategy in Japan's rapidly evolving renewable energy sector.


The successful candidate will work closely with the

Head of Development - APAC

and cross-functional teams to identify, develop, and deliver utility-scale solar projects from concept through commissioning.

Your role will encompass:

Support the Head of Development in executing strategic plans for the Japan market entry. Identify and evaluate greenfield and brownfield PV opportunities in collaboration with landowners, grid operators, and local authorities. Lead permitting, environmental, and grid connection processes, ensuring alignment with Japanese regulations and market standards. Build and maintain relationships with local partners, EPCs, and consultants to support project success. Coordinate due diligence and project structuring for investment or M&A opportunities. Work closely with internal Engineering, Legal, and Construction teams to progress projects to ready-to-build status. Represent M Renewables in industry events and associations to establish brand visibility in Japan.

What you bring to the role:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or Business. 5-8 years' experience in renewable energy project development, ideally in solar PV. Proven understanding of Japan's renewable energy market, permitting, and grid connection frameworks. Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Excellent communication skills in English, Japanese is a plus! Entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable with ambiguity and the challenges of launching a new market. * Willingness to travel domestically for site visits and stakeholder meetings.
