It comprises seven libraries, with the Central Library being the flagship and the largest. It is the largest academic and research library in Singapore with a rich collection of more than 3 million volumes covering multidisciplinary subjects.Duties & responsibilities of the Digital Scholarship (DS) Manager / Librarian

  • Lead and manage resources of DS to evaluate and review the effectiveness and scalability of programmes and initiatives.
  • Oversee the coordination and completion of NUS Libraries DS Projects by setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities to team members, tracking progress, and evaluating the success of completed projects.
  • Work with team members and stakeholders to promote the Library's DS services and facilities through events, workshops, conferences, etc.
  • Serve as project team lead for some projects and working in partnership with researchers to:
  • define the scope of projects, and
  • to plan, track, and coordinate activities among librarians, Library IT professionals, and other relevant experts towards the projects' final execution and launch.
  • Train and mentor team members to provide opportunities for staff training and professional development in expanded and emerging areas.
  • Keep up to date on trends related to digital scholarship, research data, web publishing, educational technology, digital humanities, scholarly communication, digital collections, workflow design, open access policy, repositories and metadata, assessment and digital preservation.
  • Explore and establish best practices to advance adoption of DS tools in research, teaching and learning.
  • Work closely with various stakeholders to plan, manage and implement programmes and initiatives.
  • Establish and leverage on the DS working group to transform and align DS directions
  • Provide consultation and training for researchers and students on the use of digital humanities/scholarship tools & skills for e.g. ArcGIS, data visualization, etc. to build basic digital scholarship capacity.
  • Collaborate with the NUS IT and Access Platform and Resource Management (APRM) to ensure that appropriate hardware, software, and licensing support are available for DS projects.
  • Prepare reports for Library management on status of projects.
RequirementsQualification
Master's degree in Library/Information Science with Bachelor's degree in Geography with specialization in Geographic Information Systems or Information Systems preferredYears of ExperienceAt least 2-3 years of managing digital projects and/or providing consultation and training in Digital Humanities/Scholarship tools in areas such as GIS, text mining, etc.Knowledge and Skills required.
  • Familiarity with a variety of digital scholarship, research and scholarly communication concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art trends related to digital scholarship, digital humanities, digital preservation and digital project management in order to pre-empt users' needs
  • Project management skills and ability to handle multiple priorities, projects and DS activities.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and visualization, web design, text mining and use of APIs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with a least one framework such as React, Vue or Svelte (Svelte preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience with AWS or GCP (AWS preferred), knowledge of IT security a plus (CSP, CORS, XSS or others)
  • Working knowledge of the JamStack principles
  • Solid working knowledge of version control with GIT
  • Excellent understanding or package management in the JavaScript ecosystem (npm, yarn or pnpm. pnpm preferred)
  • Demonstrated understanding of both raster and vector geospatial data, basic understanding of GIS software (QGIS preferred)
  • Experience with at least one JavaScript library dedicated to building maps (OpenLayers preferred)
  • Understanding of WebGL and demonstrated experience with three.js
  • Solid understanding of SVG for data visualisation
  • Demonstrated experience in interface design.
  • Working knowledge of the UX methodology and process
