Job Description

The Director of Agronomy is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic planning, and execution of all golf course agronomy operations. This role ensures the highest standards of turfgrass management, landscape presentation, and environmental stewardship to deliver world-class playing conditions. The Director of Agronomt reports to the General Manager, and works closely with other departments to align course conditions with the club's vision, tournament requirements, and member expectations.





Key Responsibilities





Leadership & Strategy



Develop and implement long-term agronomic strategies that align with the club's business objectives, sustainability goals, and tournament readiness standards. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of superintendents, assistants, and grounds crew. Manage succession planning, training, and skills upgrading for the Agronomy Department.

Course & Turf Management



Oversee daily golf course maintenance and ensure consistent world-class playing conditions. Direct programs for turfgrass, landscape, irrigation, pest, and soil management using modern best practices. Implement innovative agronomy techniques and technologies to enhance course quality, sustainability, and resource efficiency. Establish agronomic standards to prepare the course for major tournaments and events.

Operational & Financial Management



Develop and manage annual budgets for agronomy operations, including manpower, equipment, and materials. Optimize resource allocation (labour, machinery, water, fertilizers, and chemicals) while ensuring cost-effectiveness. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices. Manage vendor relationships, equipment procurement, and service contracts.

Stakeholder Engagement



Partner with the General Manager, Golfing, and F&B teams to align agronomy operations with member and guest experience. Provide professional agronomy insights to the Board, Management Committee, and external consultants. Communicate course conditions, progress, and key initiatives clearly to stakeholders, including members and tournament organizers.

Health, Safety & Compliance



Ensure all agronomy operations comply with workplace safety, health regulations, and environmental laws. Drive a strong safety culture across the team through regular training and audits. * Maintain records of chemical usage, water consumption, and sustainability metrics.
