We are seeking a strategic and experienced

Risk Management

professional to join the APAC Regional Risk team. This role provides

independent second-line oversight and challenge

to the risk management practices of our Asia Multi-Franchise (MF) businesses. The role does

not involve direct execution

, but instead focuses on ensuring that MF entities operate within SMBC Group's risk appetite and standards, particularly in areas such as risk-return optimization, digital lending controls, fraud risk, and broader Non-Financial Risk (NFR) domains.




Job Responsibilities






2LoD Risk Oversight & Governance


Provide independent oversight and challenge to MF entities' implementation of NFR frameworks, including RCSA, incident management, KRI, and control testing. Monitor emerging risks and escalate concerns related to operational, conduct, third-party, cyber/technology, and compliance risks. Ensure MF risk practices align with SMBC Group policies, risk appetite, and regulatory expectations.

Risk-Return Insights & Portfolio Oversight


Review and challenge MF entities' risk-return assessments and portfolio strategies. Provide insights to regional leadership on risk-adjusted performance and emerging vulnerabilities.

Digital Lending & Fraud Risk Oversight


Assess the adequacy of risk controls in digital lending platforms operated by MF entities. Monitor fraud trends and evaluate the effectiveness of fraud detection and prevention frameworks. Promote the use of data analytics and early warning indicators to strengthen fraud oversight.

Collections & Conduct Risk Governance


Evaluate governance and control frameworks related to debt collection and recovery practices. Identify and escalate reputational and conduct risks, ensuring fair customer outcomes and regulatory compliance.

Reporting, Insights & Regulatory Interface


Contribute to regional NFR reporting for the Group CRO and governance committees. Consolidate lessons learned from incidents, audits, and thematic reviews to inform risk oversight. Track regulatory developments and support MF entities in preparing for inspections and assessments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Risk Culture


Collaborate with RMDAP, AGMD, compliance, and internal audit to address cross-cutting risk issues. Promote a strong risk culture and consistent risk standards across MF entities. Share best practices and support capability-building across local risk teams.

Job Requirements


Minimum 10 years of experience in risk management, compliance, or operational resilience, preferably in financial services or consulting. Strong understanding of 2LoD responsibilities and governance structures. Proven expertise in NFR domains including fraud, cyber, conduct, and third-party risk. Familiarity with digital lending ecosystems and consumer finance in emerging markets. Exposure to NBFC/NBFI operations in at least two of the target markets: India, Indonesia, Vietnam, or the Philippines. Experience in overseeing or evaluating debt collection practices and conduct risk. Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Risk, Finance, Economics, or related field. Professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CIA, CISA) preferred. Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. * High cultural agility and ability to operate across diverse markets and time zones.
