Job Function: General Services Location: the High Commission of Canada to Singapore Number of Vacancies: 1 Closing date for application: 7 November 2022 at 23:59 UTC/GMT +8:00 Summary of Duties: Under the supervision of the Customs & General Services Assistant, provides transportation for authorized passengers, delivers and collects a variety of items and materials sends visa applications to various embassies for Canadian diplomats ensures proper maintenance of the office vehicle performs other duties as instruction by the Customs & General Services Assistant and/or DMAO. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language. and experience. Education: Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education. Minimum Secondary school, or an acceptable equivalent through the combination of education and work experience Language: Good communication skills in English (writing, listening, speaking and reading) Experience: Experience as a driver and/or messenger for an Embassy, government department/agency or large firm/private company. Experience in dealing with the Singapore government and foreign embassies. .Experience = minimum 5 years of relevant work experience (experience for the criteria can be combined for a total of five years). The assessment of the rate requirements below may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview, role-play, practical tests to evaluate each applicant's knowledge, abilities and personal suitability for the position. Knowledge: Knowledge of motor vehicles' maintenance, safety features, and their operation Overall knowledge of car mechanics and vehicle maintenance Familiarity with Singapore and the surrounding areas Detailed knowledge of street routes and traffic patterns in the Singapore area Thorough knowledge of Singapore and locations of the government and international organizations and Expert knowledge and understanding of traffic rules and regulations Abilities/ Competencies: Ability to manage time, prioritize and meet deadlines with minimal supervision Ability to handle luggage and/or heavy objects Ability to read map, use GPS, judge distances, understand direction, plan routes and estimate travel time Ability to stay clam and perform in challenging/stressful situations Ability to work in a team Sound judgement and discretion Adaptability and flexibility Client focus Communicate effectively in English and Dealing with the public Asset Qualifications: Preference may be given to candidates who have one or more of the following asset qualifications: Having a valid Singaporean motorcycle driver license and experience in driving motorcycle Training and/or certification in defensive driving, first aid and etc. Operational Requirements: Required to be in good health with vision appropriate to the main duty of driving (a medical check will be required) Working hours are Monday to Thursday, 08:00-17:00 and 08:00-14:00 on Fridays Must be able to work overtime on short notice on occasion Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends) and May be required to travel on occasion. Conditions of Employment: Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position. - Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period. - Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
