The Role Responsibilities
Strategy

  • Execute the use of climate scenario analysis for various objectives, including risk management, business decision making and strategy, corporate and account planning. Work alongside the scenario design team for the development of the Climate Risk scenarios for regulatory and management stress testing and scenario analysis. Lead the periodic analysis including portfolio sensitivity analysis for both transition and physical risks and ensure that these are in line with industry best practice and regulatory expectations.
  • Ensure that appropriate risk parameters and business targets are set up and adequately consider the Group\xe2\x80\x99s stress results and any impact on the Group\xe2\x80\x99s risk profile.
  • Develop a climate scenarios knowledge base, including research into industry best practices, regulatory and academic developments and ensure that these are embedded in stress testing capabilities as appropriate.
  • Focus on execution while being innovative, ability to take accountability and find ways to be part of the solution even when identifying problems.
  • Support country teams in executing local climate risk related stress testing and scenario analysis needs.
  • Lead Climate risk reporting requirements, including external disclosures such as the Annual Report and Accounts and internal MI, such as the Climate Risk Information Report at Group, Business and Regional / Country levels, resolving issues, automating/simplifying where possible and collaborating on the work for BCBS compliance with the reporting teams.
  • Contribute to the DQ working group to cover strategic activities, including data sourcing/automations, support transition to BAU reporting, establishing operating model, challenges on resources/budgets.
Business
  • Broad understanding of the Group\xe2\x80\x99s risk profile and business model.
  • While being focused on climate risk assessment, keep a \xe2\x80\x98think client\xe2\x80\x99 hat in any scenario developments; consider how the scenario results impact business strategy.
  • Communicate confidently with senior stakeholders, taking a lead in working groups and other meetings.
  • Develop and improve climate risk tools and assessment methodologies and work closely with the model development team, reporting and data strategy teams to identify synergies, improve data collection and automation.
Processes
  • Contribute to Group-wide RCSA reviews with respect to climate risk, particularly for stress testing.
  • Design and build controls for the Scenario analysis related workstream for Climate Risk.
  • Evaluate relevant existing controls and contribute to designing new controls as required.
  • Support development of a climate database, including sourcing of internal and external data and performing data quality checks as required.
People and Talent
  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from my team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners.
  • Ensure the provision of ongoing training and development of people and ensure that holders of all critical functions are suitably skilled and qualified for their roles ensuring that they have effective supervision in place to mitigate any risks.
  • Employ, engage and retain high quality people, with succession planning for critical roles.
  • Responsibility to review team structure/capacity plans.
  • Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives.
  • Uphold and reinforce the independence of the Risk function from those whose primary responsibility is to maximise short term revenues and profits.
Risk Management
  • Provide inputs to the Group\xe2\x80\x99s strategic risk appetite metric calculations related to stress losses.
  • Act quickly and decisively when any risk and control weakness become apparent and ensure they are addressed within an appropriate timeframe and escalated through the relevant committees.
  • Understanding of various scenario families including NGFS, IPCC, IEA and bespoke scenarios.
  • Understanding and translating transmission channels of climate risks into financial system impacts
  • Familiarity with industry leading climate risk models and climate/ESG data providers, with fluency in the scope, capabilities, and limitations of each tool and platform
  • Understanding of regulatory expectations with respect to climate risks including capital frameworks etc
  • Able to deal with large complex, change projects and/or building / delivering new capabilities and to drive these.
  • A proven track record of liaising across diverse stakeholder groups; including senior managers, and large firm networks.
  • Experience with scenario expansion and/or econometric modelling for scenario analysis and stress testing purposes
Governance
  • Contribute to overall governance mechanisms (including committee oversight and individual approval authorities) for climate risk management.
  • Provide support across Climate Risk Management, ensuring compliance with the highest standards of regulatory and business conduct and compliance practices as defined by internal and external requirements.
  • Embed the Group\xe2\x80\x99s values and code of conduct in Climate Risk.
  • Ensure that material issues are reported to the responsible risk governance committees including the CRMC, GRC and BRC.

Our Ideal Candidate
  • 14+ Years of experience
  • Prior engagement in CCIB and climate-related workstreams and other risk areas strongly desired.
  • Understanding of climate risk
  • Experience in Stress testing
  • Prior engagement with Risk Framework Owners / Policy Owners and business owners preferred.
  • Prior hands-on experience with stress testing preferred, particularly climate risk stress testing.
  • Ability to understand and manipulate Data
