EQUAL partners with rescued, retired or adopted animals (horses and dogs) to help bring healing and support to children, youths, families, seniors as well as persons with special needs. Our headquaters is in the Thomson area and we also run a programme centre in Enabling Village at Redhill.
ABOUT THE ROLE he purpose of this role is to train the horses, to maintain the general fitness of the horses and to prepare them for Equine programmes and other equine-related activities at EQUAL. The Equine Trainer is responsible for working closely with our horses, tending to their physical needs, rehabilitation and retraining so as to prepare them for the equine-related programmes and services at EQUAL. The Equine Trainer focuses on the general fitness and maintenance of the horses, regularly exercising (i.e. lunging, walking), riding and doing rounds/ visual and touch inspection on horses to ensure that they are well and in healthy condition. The Equine Trainers will work closely with the Grooms to ensure that the horses are well cared for and their welfare is always prioritised. The Equine Trainer will also help supervise the Grooms, when assigned by the Stable Supervisor. This role also requires the Equine Trainer to coordinate and journey with the Equine Programme team members on the programme schedule when horses are involved in the facilitation of the Equine Programme sessions. The Equine Trainer will handle our horses during the programme during the sessions and assist the Equine Programme Instructors while they serve our clients during the sessions. It is also the responsibility of the Equine Trainer to regularly check the areas surrounding the stable to ensure the best environment for our horses. The role of Equine Trainer also includes the preparation of horses for the Equine Programme, incljuding tacking and untacking in the absence of a Groom, as well as checking and maintaining all riding equipment (i.e. bridle, saddles and saddle pads) in the Tack Room. This role reports to the Stable Supervisor and works closely with the Animal Welfare & Operations Division, led by the Head of Animal Welfare & Operations. The Equine Trainer will also assist in any other activities/ events/ or work as instructed by the Stable Supervisor, Head of Animal Welfare & Operations or Leadership team.
