Job Description

Responsibilities

Working with a team of dedicated staff to ensure that animal husbandry and up-keep of the animal areas in the facility are carried so that the facility is maintained in a functional and operational state.

Responsible for performing procedures requested by the researchers as directed by the Facility Manager.

Animal Husbandry - Daily animal checks, change soiled cages, diet and water topping up, referring sick animals to the vets. Transfer soiled cages for washing, unloading sterilized cages, and distributing them to the respective rooms.

Upkeep of the facility - Cleaning and mopping the floors, receiving diets, beddings, and other consumables. Moving and transport supplies, receiving or help in handling animal shipments. Managing clean and soiled scrubs and gowns.

Managing Procedure Rooms - Topping up supplies, cleaning, and management of all types of waste, to manage the different equipment housed in the procedure rooms, and to engage servicemen to repair faulty equipment. Help on procedural work to learn new procedures and to teach others. Teach new users who have limited experience handling animals. Carry out procedures on animals as a service.

Communicate clearly with fellow workers about tasked responsibilities or matters that would hinder the effective running of the animal facility. To liaise with researchers regarding their needs for consumables and animal related matters.

Requirements

A Diploma in any Science discipline or at least 2 years' experience working in an animal facility as an animal husbandry staff.

Good interpersonal skills as the work requires you to be a team player as well as an independent and responsible worker who is self-motivated. You will be interacting with the different facility staff as well as the research staff who come in to carry out their work.

Training will be provided, but you must be able to follow standard operating procedures diligently as the husbandry care impacts the wellbeing of the animals and research work.

A willingness to learn which is important as the needs of the facility can change depending on the needs of the research directions of the school.

Must have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.

You will be working in the Animal Research Facilities at Research Support Building in Nanyang Technological University, which is licensed by the Animal and Veterinary Services at (National Park Boards) NParks.

You will also be required to work in the Animal Research Facilities at Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, which is licensed by the Animal and Veterinary Services at NParks if the need arises.
