Job Description

Fiber Optic Technician is responsible for installing, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fiber optic cables and related network systems to ensure high-quality data transmission.


Installation and Setup



Install and terminate fiber optic cables (single-mode and multi-mode). Perform cable pulling, routing, and securing in ducts, trays, or conduits. Install fiber enclosures, patch panels, and other related hardware. Set up fiber distribution frames and connect fibers according to network layouts.

2. Splicing and Termination



Perform mechanical and fusion splicing of fiber optic cables. Conduct fiber termination using various connector types (SC, LC, ST, etc.).

3. Testing and Inspection



Use testing tools such as OTDR, power meter, and light source for cable performance verification. Identify fiber faults, losses, breaks, or degradations. Document test results and provide detailed reports.

4. Maintenance and Troubleshooting



Diagnose and repair fiber cable faults or damage. Perform preventive maintenance on network infrastructure.

5. Documentation and Reporting



Maintain records of splicing logs, test reports, and as-built drawings. Update network maps and cable route information. Prepare daily or weekly work progress reports for management review.

6. Coordination and Communication



Work with engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure project requirements are met. Assist in site surveys and provide technical input for project planning. * Support training or mentoring of junior technicians when required.
