Provides field services and support to customers for a range of MaK marine and CM engine products as per the following services:

Job Responsibilities:

MaK Marine Medium Speed Products:

Performs hands-on field services including maintenance, overhauling, rebuilding, repair, upgrading and basic diagnostics of engines and auxiliary equipment onboard vessels, oil & gas installations and land-based power plants.

Performs service, maintenance, overhauling, and repair of engines and engine components in the workshop or onboard vessels or at other field locations. This includes cylinder heads, fuel injection pumps, injectors, pistons, liners, connecting rods, water/lube oil pumps, coolers, main and big-end bearings etc.

Performs precision measurement and calibration of engine parts and components using dial indicators, gauges, micrometers, calipers etc.

Able to perform basic level of failure and root cause analysis. Able to identify if an engine part or component is damaged, excessively worn, can be replaced or needs to be replaced.

Ensures that all service tasks and jobs are performed in a safe manner in accordance with Caterpillar EHS requirements.

Travels extensively outside of home Country to attend to field service assignments.

Prepares professional, well written and detailed service reports and punch lists.

Promotes MaK spare parts and service sales by advising customers on MaK marine engine maintenance guidelines in association on the actual condition of the engine or equipment. Gather intelligence while onboard the vessel such as engine operating hours, condition, maintenance history, dry docking schedule, and customer related information.

Learns how to perform basic troubleshooting, diagnostics and repair of electrical parts and components including engine control systems, governors, monitoring and engine safety systems.

Learns how to perform troubleshooting and diagnosing engine performance issues, breakdowns, failures. Provide accurate advice and guidance to customers.

Learns how to convey issues arising from installation problems to customers in a diplomatic manner.

Learns about heavy fuel and natural gas fuel systems and engine operation. Provides advice on product knowledge and operation and maintenance to customers, vessel managers and operators. Learns the external specifications necessary for Shipyards and Marine Classification Societies.

Learns how to plan and facilitate a service job and major overhauls and to work with no or minimal supervision.

Learns how to audit engine and auxiliary equipment installations including gearbox, shaft line, clutch, coupling, pumps, heavy fuel module, separators, coolers, heat exchanger, control equipment, monitoring equipment, safety system, sensors, indicators, pick-ups, electronic - mechanical hydraulic - electromechanical speed control).

The position develops the ability to manage the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others.

BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:

The position typically requires a diploma, maritime qualifications or relevant experience with at least 5-years prior experience in servicing large marine medium speed diesel engines and auxiliary systems in marine, oil and gas, and or land based electric power applications. The position also requires a good degree of diplomatic soft-skills, communication (reasonable command of English language), listening skills, and teamwork. Personal computer skills and familiarity with standard software packages is required.
