Role Overview
GyroGear is seeking a
Finance Officer
to take full ownership of the company's financial operations, controls, and forward-looking financial planning.
This is a
hands-on ownership role
, not a bookkeeping or finance admin position. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring financial discipline, visibility, and risk management as the company scales across multiple jurisdictions.
The Finance Manager will report directly to the Head of Finance and CEO and act as the
single point of accountability
for finance execution and insight.
Core Responsibilities1. Financial Ownership & Control (Primary)
Own the
monthly close
process end-to-end, including timelines, accuracy, and reconciliation
Maintain
real-time cash position and runway forecasts
, including scenario modelling
Own
budgeting and OPEX control
, including variance analysis and spend discipline
Proactively identify
cash, compliance, and operational finance risks
Design, implement, and enforce
finance controls, approval matrices, and SOPs
2. Cashflow, Payments & Treasury
Manage daily cash operations across multiple bank accounts
Own
payment prioritisation
decisions under cash constraints
Ensure timely execution of payroll, statutory payments, vendors, and subscriptions
Reduce CEO involvement in routine and tactical finance decisions over time
3. Accounting & Compliance
Own the
Xero accounting system
(structure, integrity, controls -- not just usage)
Ensure compliance with local statutory requirements (e.g. GST, CPF, filings)
Act as primary interface with
external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors
Maintain audit-ready financial records at all times
Maintain multi-year documentation and evidence for legal and financial purposes.
Support grant-related financial reporting where required
Validate staff, contractor, and consumables claims
4. Legal, IP & Corporate Finance Administration
Own financial aspects of
patent renewals, budgeting, and payments
Coordinate with legal counsel on finance-related corporate matters
Maintain clean records for IP-related financial commitments
5. Board & Management Reporting
Prepare
clear, concise financial updates
for CEO and Board
Translate financial data into
decision-ready insights
Maintain finance dashboards covering cash, burn, runway, and risk indicators
Support fundraising, board reporting, and shareholder updates as needed
Coordinate with board and advisors and ensure defensibility

A bookkeeping-only position
A pure accounts payable / payroll role
A finance admin or coordinator role
A role where responsibility is shared ambiguously across the team
The Finance Officer is expected to
own outcomes
, not just execute tasks.
Required Experience & SkillsMust-Have
5-8+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or financial management roles
CPA or equivalent.
Strong understanding of cashflow management and runway planning
Hands-on experience with accounting systems (Xero strongly preferred)
Experience working with external auditors, tax advisors, and banks
High attention to detail and organisational ability, combined with strong judgment and prioritisation
Comfortable operating with ambiguity and limited structure
Strongly Preferred
Experience with
statutory filings
(UK, Singapore, or similar regimes)
Prior experience
owning finance for a startup or scale-up
Experience in
multi-entity or multi-jurisdiction
setups
Exposure to hardware, medtech, or regulated industries
Experience supporting board reporting and fundraising processes
Success Criteria (First 90 Days)
By the end of the first 90 days, the Finance Manager should:
Fully own monthly close without CEO intervention
Deliver a reliable
cash runway model
with scenarios
Implement clear finance SOPs and approval controls
Take over all payment prioritisation and cash management decisions
Reduce CEO involvement in finance execution by at least 70%
Provide board-ready finance updates with minimal iteration
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: $1,740.06 - $5,698.71 per month
Expected hours: 20 - 40 per week
