The Fire Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring fire safety compliance and performance in building and infrastructure projects. This includes designing fire protection systems, conducting risk assessments, preparing regulatory submissions, and overseeing installation and commissioning works in accordance with Singapore's fire safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Engineering
Develop and integrate fire protection systems (sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, wet/dry risers, gas suppression, smoke control) with ACMV and M&E systems.
Perform hydraulic calculations, prepare schematics, and technical drawings.
Ensure designs comply with local standards (SS CP 52, SS 575, SS 553), NFPA, FM Global.
Regulatory Compliance
Prepare and submit Fire Safety Reports (FSRs) and fire safety plans to SCDF and BCA.
Liaise with Qualified Persons (QPs), Registered Inspectors (RIs), and SCDF officers to secure approvals.
Ensure compliance with the Fire Safety Act and other relevant codes.
Project Management
Oversee fire protection works from design to commissioning.
Review shop drawings, material submissions, and method statements.
Conduct risk assessments and resolve site issues to ensure timely delivery.
Testing & Commissioning
Lead inspection and functional testing of fire protection systems.
Coordinate with ACMV systems (e.g., pressurisation fans, smoke extraction).
Ensure documentation and compliance with Fire Safety Certificate (FSC) requirements.
Collaboration & Coordination
Work closely with architects, M&E consultants, and contractors to integrate fire safety solutions.
Attend site meetings and coordinate with stakeholders to address issues and update progress.
Leadership & Mentorship
Guide junior engineers and draftsmen in technical design and authority submissions.
Conduct training sessions on fire codes and best practices.
Requirements:
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering, or related discipline.
Professional Engineer (PE) certification is an advantage.
Experience
3-8 years of relevant experience in fire protection engineering within the construction or M&E industry in Singapore.
Experience in large-scale projects (commercial, industrial, infrastructure).
Technical Skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, and hydraulic calculation tools.
Strong knowledge of SCDF, BCA, NFPA, FM Global codes.
Soft Skills
Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
