Are you hands-on, patient, and excited about building things with kids? We're hiring a
Freelance Race Car Engineering Instructor
to teach children ages
6-12
through an engaging, build-and-race programme where students
assemble, customise, and test their own Tamiya race cars
.
Classes are highly hands-on and exploratory, introducing kids to
basic engineering concepts
such as structure, mechanics, problem-solving, and iteration -- all through play and experimentation.
Training and lesson materials will be provided.
Availability required:
Weekly commitment; excluding school holidays
Key Responsibilities
Facilitate hands-on engineering classes:
Guide students step-by-step as they assemble and customise Tamiya race car kits.
Introduce engineering concepts in a child-friendly way:
Explain ideas such as wheels & axles, friction, balance, stability, speed, and design iteration.
Support testing & improvement:
Help kids test their cars on tracks, observe results, troubleshoot issues, and make improvements.
Encourage creativity & problem-solving:
Allow children to personalise designs while learning from trial and error.
Ensure safe tool use:
Supervise the use of small tools and parts, ensuring a safe and organised build environment.
Create a positive classroom experience:
Manage classroom flow, keep students engaged, and support varying skill levels.
Key Requirements
Comfortable with
hands-on building and assembly
(engineering kits, model kits, LEGO, robotics, etc.).
Interest in
engineering, mechanics, STEM, or design & technology
.
Patient, clear communicator who enjoys explaining concepts to children.
Able to manage groups of kids in an active, workshop-style setting.
Reliable and professional in school environments.
Willing to travel to various school locations across Singapore.
Willing to undergo a background check (required for school settings).
Able to commit to
weekly Wednesdays
for a
minimum term of 6 months
(excluding school holidays).
Bonus (not required):
Prior experience with
Tamiya cars, model kits, robotics, LEGO engineering, or maker projects
.
Background in
engineering, STEM education, or technical fields
.
Experience teaching or facilitating classes for children.
Interview & Selection Process
Candidates will undergo a
3-stage
process:
Initial Screening & Group Stage (Video Call)
- Short interview and group interaction.
Face-to-Face Session & Trial Build Activity
- In-person meeting, training, and a short hands-on demo.
Tryout Class (Final Review)
- Conduct a supervised class session for final evaluation.
Training Provided
Full training on Tamiya kits, lesson flow, safety guidelines, and classroom management.
Access to lesson plans, build guides, and activity frameworks.
