Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain a secure, scalable experiment sandbox environment for rapid solution prototyping across the full technology stack
Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and fellow engineers to co-create POCs and validate technical concepts in compressed development cycles
Drive modern software engineering practices including CI/CD, test automation, containerisation, and microservices architecture within the experimental environment
Provide technical leadership and guidance on engineering approaches, frameworks, and toolchains to accelerate innovation and prototype development
Evaluate emerging technologies and assess their applicability to agency needs through quick experiments and proof-of-concept implementations
Document reusable components, reference architectures, and best practices for broader adoption across product teams and the wider organisation
Partner with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams to ensure sandbox compliance with governance and risk policies whilst maintaining development agility
Track and report on experiment outcomes, including time-to-prototype, performance, and scalability assessments to inform future technical decisions.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
Minimum 1-3 years of software engineering experience, preferably in agile, product-focused environments
Strong hands-on experience in modern full-stack development (e.g., Node.js, Python, React, or similar).
Proficiency with cloud-native platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform), container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), and DevOps toolchains (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
Demonstrated ability to deliver functional POCs in short timeframes and validate their feasibility.
Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to work cross-functionally in a multi-disciplinary team
Experience with experimentation frameworks, innovation labs, or government tech environments is a plus
Familiarity with AI development (preferred)
