The Role


Where you fit in The Global Freight Trading Analyst position offers the opportunity to join Shell Global Products Freight Trading Team with its challenging, dynamic and fast paced Physical & Paper Freight Trading business environment. The role also offers the ability to develop cutting edge, innovative analysis models to gain the most accurate forward view of the products freight market. The role is expected to work closely with Products Freight Traders, Crude Freight team, Freight Forward Agreement (FFA) Traders, Global LR/MR/Chemicals/VLGC Book Leads, oil trading desk, oil analysts, STMA team and other parts of Shell to develop first class freight trading analysis. This role together with STASCO based Global Freight Analyst shall form a small analytical team accountable and responsible for global freight trading intel works and at the same time, co-own the FFA analytical book. The role also provides the candidate with further development opportunity into FFA derivatives trading. What\xe2\x80\x99s the role? Accountabilities: Freight Trading Physical Analysis
  • Leverage on Shell T&S Strength to consolidate STMA, Oil Trading, Chemicals Trading data and produce fundamental analysis of physical freight trading per vessel segment.
  • Leverage on external Freight analytical tools for ship counting / tracking for LR2/LR1/VLGC segment.
  • Worldwide fleet balancing tracking & Trend analysis.
  • Join weekly LR/MR/Chemicals/VLGC book calls to provide analytical update.
  • Work as a team with STASCO based Freight analyst for global Freight analytical initiatives with primary focus on East of Suez markets.
FFA Derivatives Analysis & Execution
  • Develop TC5, TC17 predicting model.
  • Incorporating Refining Margins, Cracks forward curve, Fixing Pace, Main Oil Arbitrage projection and other fundamental factors into FFA recommendations.
  • Co-Run and contribute to the weekly Cross-Book FFA calls.
  • When requested, cover TC5, TC17 FFA trading activities under Senior FFA traders supervision
  • Develop methodology on Implied shorts exposure calculation.
  • Manage LR/MR implied shorts exposure together with the trading team.
  • Interact with Oil desks to generate/aggregate T&S FFA internal interest.
  • Work as a team with STASCO based freight analyst for SPEC FFA trading analysis.
  • Enrolled in traders readiness program and upon graduation, be able to trade/execute FFAs independently.
Risk Reporting
  • Work closely with Global Market Risk Team.
  • Develop freight specific var methodology by working with Book Leads and Risk Team.
  • Support freight book with no forward FFA curve to develop ways of quantifying forward value into economic P&L.
Bunker Hedge
  • Interface with Crude EED team and FO trading team on their latest market view.
  • Work closely with STASCO based freight analyst and all global book leads on overall Bunker Hedge Strategy/execution.
  • Work as a team to further improve/develop technical analysis.
Physical Freight Chartering/Operations (optional):
  • Act as cover for CPP/Chemicals charter-in activities when required (this can only be performed under senior traders supervision).
  • A 2 to 4 month Operations coverage will form part of the traders readiness program (unless candidate already has operations experience).
What we need from you
  • Possess at least 5 to 10 years in Commodity / Freight Trading analysis
  • Candidates with freight trading / broking freight analysis experience will be preferred.
  • Background in Tanker/Chartering and Oil & Gas is advantageous.
  • It is essential that you can show you are a self-starter and can work well as part of a team.
  • An awareness / understanding of paper instruments utilized for hedging and speculative trading would be valuable.
