The Guitar Instructor shall design and deliver a structured and developmentally appropriate
Guitar Ensemble CCA training programme
for students, in close consultation with the Teacher-in-Charge. The instructor will be responsible for cultivating students' musicality, technical proficiency, ensemble discipline, and passion for music-making through regular rehearsals, performances, and reflection activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Training
Conduct regular CCA training sessions according to the approved schedule (e.g., weekly 2-hour sessions).
Teach both
classical and contemporary guitar techniques
(depending on ensemble focus).
Ensure progressive development in sight-reading, ensemble coordination, tone production, and musical expression.
Guide students in preparation for performances and competitions such as
Singapore Youth Festival (SYF)
and
school concerts
.
Programme Development
Develop and submit a
30- to 40-week training plan / student development plan
in consultation with the Teacher-in-Charge.
Incorporate school values,
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)
outcomes, and
21st Century Competencies (21CC)
into lessons.
Design appropriate
assessments and rubrics
to track student progress in technical skills, attitude, and teamwork.
Performance Preparation
Select and arrange suitable repertoire aligned with students' skill levels and event requirements.
Organise sectional and full ensemble rehearsals to achieve performance readiness.
Coordinate with the school on logistics such as instruments, sound equipment, and performance attire.
Student Development
Foster a supportive, disciplined, and values-based learning environment.
Mentor student leaders or ensemble representatives to assist in rehearsals and peer mentoring.
Encourage creativity, teamwork, and self-reflection among members.
Administrative & Collaborative Duties
Liaise regularly with the Teacher-in-Charge on programme updates and student development.
Maintain attendance records, training logs, and evaluation reports.
Provide feedback at the end of each term and submit reports as required by the school.
Job Requirements:

Diploma or Degree in Music, Guitar Performance, or equivalent. Candidates with strong performance or teaching portfolios may also be considered.
Experience
At least
2 years of experience
teaching or leading Guitar Ensembles, preferably in a school CCA or equivalent setting. Experience in preparing students for SYF or public performances is an advantage.
Skills
Proficiency in classical or acoustic guitar (solo and ensemble), music arrangement, sight-reading, and ensemble direction.
Soft Skills
Strong communication and classroom management skills; ability to motivate and guide students of varied skill levels.

Other Requirements
Must comply with MOE's CCA instructor guidelines, including safety, attendance, and conduct expectations.
