UWCSEA East has a tentative vacancy for a Head Of Faculty Of Mathematics (High School)/Teacher of High School Mathematics from August 2024.

The appointee will teach a range of classes from Grade 9 to Grade 12. The department currently offers all levels of IGCSE and IB Diploma Mathematics, and our own UWCSEA Grade 9-10 concept based curriculum . The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they are an excellent and inspiring practitioner with the drive to continually develop within the profession.

Main Responsibilities

The Head of HS Mathematics Faculty will oversee and lead all aspects of departmental learning in the High School. To achieve this, the successful candidate will possess or develop a deep engagement with, and understanding of, United World College\xe2\x80\x99s Mission and Vision, and the subject\xe2\x80\x99s place within it. This may embrace several aspects of our Learning Programme and the wider community. The successful candidate will also be able to teach across the different maths sections of IGCSE, our concept-based UWCSEA courses and IBDP.

  • Pastoral expectations include the leadership of a tutor group unless the teacher is exempted due to other responsibilities
  • On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service.
  • The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular Outdoor Education experiences which are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday Outdoor Education trips.

Leadership Role

Working closely with the Head of Grade 9-10 Mathematics and the Head of IBDP Mathematics, the successful candidate will:
  • Lead curriculum development, including developing and refining the curriculum, through a concept-based approach.
  • Ensure subject learning is commensurate with UWC values.
  • Support and facilitate collaborative teaching projects with other curriculum areas as appropriate.
  • Manage Departmental resources and oversee Departmental budget.
  • Manage scheduling and calendaring processes for the High School.
  • Oversee arrangements for external examinations (IGCSE and IBDP).
  • Monitor and evaluate HS academic standards and outcomes

  • Nurture the existing culture of self-direction, in order to support appropriate decision making and behaviours in line with UWC values.

  • A good degree in Mathematics or a closely related discipline and a recognized teaching qualification or certification are expected.
  • Broad experience of curriculum programme development with IBDP experience of the new IB Diploma AA and AI courses a distinct advantage.
