Overview*

To ensure availability of clean glassware and maintain hygiene and appearance of work areas.

To provide portering service as required for supplies procurement or dispatch.

Job Responsibilities*

You will be responsible for the following:

Primary Responsibilities and Duties (80%)

• Collect biohazardous waste in the laboratory, autoclave as required and take to collection area. Clean and maintain cleanliness of assigned areas.

• Collect liquid waste in carboy containers from laboratories to collection area. Replace with empty carboy containers for lab use.

• Perform cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and drying of lab ware.

• Collect unused disinfectant jars and dispose disinfectant waste daily. Prepare fresh disinfectant and distribute to benches.

• Prepare media and autoclave as required. Maintain and ensure stock availability of sterilized laboratory items such as test tubes, cotton swabs, oxidase paper strips, toothpicks, wire ties, etc.

• Pack blood culture bottles and other consumables.

• Collect and dispatch of items, including:

• Collect and distribute store items for the divisions.
• Collect and wash used glassware.
• Collect blood and urine specimens from clinics.
• Collect and deliver glucose drinks.
• Count, record and collect clean DLM lab coats and scrubs from laundry and arrange in closet.
• Sort results report into pigeon holes and dispatch to wards/clinics during system downtime.
• Dispatch EQA specimens from mailroom.

• Assist the Medical Laboratory Technologists / Scientists in daily laboratory preparations as requested.

• Follow all laboratory safety rules.

• Follow DLM Workplace Etiquette in line with NUHS Core Values.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities (20%)

• Assist the Material Co-ordinator in organising the store as required, and assist the Material Co-ordinator in stock-taking as required.

• Collect pharmaceutical supplies from pharmacy, and collect stores from MMD.

• Collect old result forms packed in carton boxes from laboratories and transport to basement loading bay to facilitate the pickup by data storage service vendor where applicable.

• Change RO water filter.

• Shift furniture & equipment as directed.

• Any other duties as requested by Supervisors, Executives & Managers.

Requirements*

Qualification Required and Area of Discipline

PSLE or ITE or equivalent

Required Competencies and Capabilities (Skills, Experiences and Professional Licences)

• 5 years as Health Attendant or equivalent job scope
• Able to communicate in English, preferably able to read English as well
• Physically fit
• Responsible with good interpersonal and communication skills
• Service oriented and customer focused
• Understands and meet NUHS CORE values
