DESCRIPTION

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a HR Director for its Commercial Sales organization in APJ to fuel business as we continue to rapidly scale and achieve unprecedented success in the cloud. Cloud computing is arguably one of the most impactful developments in technology within the last 20 years, and the successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to play a significant role in this endeavor as a member for the AWS business and Amazon HR Team.

Reporting to the Global HR leader for AWS Commercial, the successful candidate will be a builder working closely with senior leadership teams to build people capability in APJ. Partnering with business leaders, employees, and HR and Talent Acquisition peers within AWS and across Amazon, this leader will utilize, build, define, refine and implement progressive and industry defining HR practices. Through at-scale programs and high touch engagements, this role will develop and lead the APJ human resource agenda. They will advise, consult and broadly contribute as a member of the HR team in the development and execution of AWS HR short-term and long-term plans based on corporate goals, strategic planning and growth objectives. Specifically, they will:

  • Serve as a senior advisor and confidant to senior leaders in APJ on human capital related matters, helping to ensure that AWS has the talent, culture, and commitment necessary to grow and evolve in APJ, and supports these outcomes with efficient processes/systems, relevant compensation/benefits, compliant practices, and smart people analytics;
  • Focus on and deliver against the following key priorities: cultivate culture, grow talent, build organization capability, improve organization health, and increase HR effectiveness;
  • Foster positive consistent engagement beginning with a great first day and consistent support and development through the employee lifecycle. Oversee and enhance the talent management processes and employee development processes. Identify, develop and improve retention of high performers/high potentials;
  • Build mechanisms that reinforce and strengthen Amazon\'s culture. Ensure people systems work together to support a high achieving, empowered, healthy and transparent culture. Avoid bureaucracy while building sustainable systems capable of handling additional growth and complexity;
  • Represent Amazon in conversations with government agencies, customers and other external stakeholders.
The role will be based in Singapore or India.

Key job responsibilities
CRITICAL FIRST YEAR DELIVERABLES
  • Learn Amazon culture and Amazon Web Services business. Build relationships and credibility to be the trusted partner that can execute on all elements of the people vision and maintain the bar on Amazon\'s culture;
  • Assess the APJ HR organization, including employee engagement, manager capabilities and teams\' alignment to Amazon culture. Within 90 days, develop organizational clarity through detailed writing of initial insights on assessments. Within 120 days, create the action plan incorporating short term winning moves and longer-term plans for up to three key areas;
  • Be a coach who motivates and teaches leaders and team on how to drive organizational behavior and alignment;
  • Assess current HR functions in the context of the business to optimize and improve the function of the team, delivering excellent basic services efficiently and building the capacity to enhance Amazon\'s advantages.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor\'s degree in Human Resources or related field required;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master\'s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology and/or an MBA preferred.

In addition to broad HR expertise and experiences, also have a history of:
  • Exhibiting thought leadership, building a vision that inspires teams, applying operational excellence; techniques to implement that vision, and being known for partnering well in high-velocity environment(s) with clients, HR peers and HR central teams to meet business objectives;
  • Operating outside of standard playbooks, finding new solutions which lead to tangible results;
  • Testing new hypotheses and taking a creative data-driven approach;
  • Executing and delivering impactful people projects with small driven teams; always seeing room for improvement despite exceptional demonstrated success;
  • Being a developer of talent, with a passion for hiring and talent assessment to ensure the right people are in the right roles plus developing and empowering colleagues at all levels across Amazon;
  • Striking the right balance between speed/flexibility and process/compliance, deploying a highly analytical approach to ensure that the organization rigorously measures and analyzes the right things to drive success;
  • Continuously seeing around corners to anticipate future talent needs and developing strategies to meet the needs of rapidly scaling teams while also scaling themselves and the HR team to stay a step ahead;
  • Maintaining relentlessly high standards with a high degree of integrity, personally and professionally;
  • Always learning, curious and positive.
