The Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) Engineer will be responsible for the planning, analysis, and delivery of logistics engineering activities throughout the life cycle of complex defence and engineering systems. The role ensures that systems are designed, supported, and sustained in accordance with customer requirements, contractual obligations, and international ILS standards (e.g., DEF STAN 00-600, MIL-STD-1388, S3000L, and S1000D). The ILS Engineer plays a critical role in minimizing life-cycle costs, maximizing system availability, and ensuring long-term supportability.
Core Responsibilities
-------------------------
1. ILS Planning & Management
Develop, update, and execute ILS Plans and associated documentation in line with project requirements and defence standards.
Define and manage supportability requirementsto be incorporated into the system design and development process.
Coordinate with engineering, procurement, operations, and customer stakeholders to align ILS deliverables with project milestones.
Support contract deliverables and compliance audits for ILS-related outputs.
2. Logistic Support Analysis (LSA)
Perform detailed Maintenance Task Analysis (MTA), Level of Repair Analysis (LORA), and Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM).
Conduct Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) to inform support strategies.
Develop and maintain LSA Records (LSARs) in compliance with DEF STAN 00-60x or MIL-STD-1388 standards.
Contribute to system design reviews by providing supportability inputs to optimize through-life cost and availability.
3. Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) Engineering
Support RAM modelling and simulation to predict system performance and availability.
Analyse reliability growth data and provide feedback to design teams for improvement.
Ensure maintainability principles are applied during the design and support phases.
4. Support & Supply Chain Requirements
Define spares provisioning, test equipment, ground support equipment, tools, and facilities required for system operation and sustainment.
Prepare Provisioning Data Lists (PDL), Spares Parts Lists (SPL), and Recommended Spare Parts Lists (RSPL).
Conduct Life Cycle Cost (LCC) and Through-Life Support (TLS) analyses.
5. Technical Documentation & Data Management
Develop and maintain Technical Publications, Maintenance Manuals, User Handbooks, and Illustrated Parts Catalogues (IPC)in line with S1000D or customer-specific requirements.
Support the preparation of Training Needs Analysis (TNA), training materials, and courseware for operators and maintainers.
Manage ILS data integrity using appropriate Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or ILS tools.
6. Obsolescence & Configuration Management
Monitor obsolescence risks and propose mitigation strategies.
Ensure configuration control of logistics deliverables is maintained throughout the project life cycle.
7. Stakeholder & Customer Engagement
Liaise with customer representatives, suppliers, and internal stakeholders on ILS deliverables.
Provide ILS input to bids, proposals, and project status reviews.
Support acceptance, verification, and validation of ILS deliverables.
