Job Description


The investment research role\xe2\x80\x99s key responsibilities are to provide Investment Research and analysis to that assist in the construction of TallRock\xe2\x80\x99s model portfolios.

This analysis extends beyond client portfolios and is there to aid Financial Advisers in speaking with clients on the market conditions and TallRock\xe2\x80\x99s house view of the financial markets.

They will be responsible for using effective portfolio methods to constantly review the performance of the portfolios. These methods should consist of some or all of the following:

  • Assessment of Management Group and Fund Manager.
  • Need to demonstrate a history of performance through economic cycles and ensure liquidity in the funds invested.
  • Have knowledge and experience in Morningstar Direct.
  • Have knowledge and experience in MS Power BI.
  • They must ensure the target returns are in line with or exceed on a year to year basis, the TallRock target return.
The role is responsible for ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements as part of the research process and must make any adjustments required in the process to comply with the Monetary Authority of Singapore and or other legal bodies that have the right to request this information.

The investment research role is also responsible for chairing the monthly performance reviews of TallRock\xe2\x80\x99s model portfolios. The review process will require the incumbent to provide a detailed report on any recommendations to changes in these portfolios.

They will also be responsible for certain marketing activities. These include and are not limited to:
  • Marketing materials outlining TallRock\xe2\x80\x99s Investment Strategy
  • General Monthly Market Commentary, including commentary on the performance of these portfolios.
  • Promotion of TallRocks model portfolio construction and strategy with advisers
  • Produce articles to aid in increasing communication resulting in sales for TallRock and the advisers.
  • Market commentary.
Outside of model portfolios the role requires the incumbent to use appropriate research (not limited to the use of company\xe2\x80\x99s paid systems) when analysing clients/potential clients\xe2\x80\x99 portfolios that do not fall within TallRocks model portfolio profiles.

It is expected that the incumbent will have prior experience with a range of research experience, presentations and in-depth market analysis.

They must be very well organised, with and ability to effectively priorities activities and manage a diverse range of projects while meeting strict deadlines.

This role is specifically designed to enhance TallRock\xe2\x80\x99s model investment portfolios for their clients, provide clear investment data and knowledge to the company\xe2\x80\x99s clients, inform advisers of the process and market TallRocks approach internally and externally.

Critical Challenges & Responsibilities
  • Research data for portfolio\xe2\x80\x99s in accurate
  • Client\xe2\x80\x99s recommended portfolios are within risk tolerance
  • Project tasks are completed within deadlines. Director is kept informed of progress on projects
  • Being able to communicate in a positive light for client\xe2\x80\x99s which aid sales not just factual.
  • Able to solve complex issues in the absence of higher authority
Working Relationships
  • Required to interact internally with customer care and admin departments on an adhoc basis.
  • Key is the interaction with advisers and able to aid in their sales
  • External interaction is with vendors that are critical for the role: Research, Valuations and project development.
  • This position will require interaction with all team members at all levels. Integral interaction will be with the executive team.
  • Interaction with research vendors, Morning Star being the critical interaction for the role
  • Navglobal on the valuations and IT Developers for project work
Knowledge, Qualifications and Competencies

Specialised knowledge/experience:
  • Commerce/Finance tertiary qualifications
  • Understanding of Financial Services Industry
  • Investment research and portfolio construction (3-5 years)
Critical competencies:
  • Strong Relationship Management & Effective Communication skills
  • Solid PC skills, including more advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent written & oral communications skills
  • Strategic thinking and ability to think outside the box to drive the company forward through the growth stage
  • Ability to drive results
  • Strong team player
  • Self starter/ability to work without direct supervision
  • Strong organisational abilities
  • Understand the companies vision and mission and strive to ensure these are obtainable

  • Can do attitude, if you are faced with a NO, what other options are available to be able to attain an outcome
