Job description
We are looking for a Backend Engineer to support in delivering IoT solutions. In this role, you will develop and maintain backend systems, integrate sensors and edge devices, and ensure secure, scalable cloud infrastructure.
You will also perform hardware-software testing, create API and system documentation, and enhance system reliability through monitoring, optimisation, and cybersecurity practices. This role is primarily responsible for the implementation and operation of ICT and IOT systems.
Working hours: 8.30am-6pm (Mon-Thurs), 8.30am-5.30pm (Fri)
Working location: Central
Job Type: 1 Year Contract (Renewable)
Salary: Basic UP to $10,000, depending on experience + AWS

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain IoT systems across sensors, edge devices, and backend services using protocols like MQTT, AMQP, REST, and CoAP.
• Conduct hardware-software integration testing, validation, and create comprehensive unit/integration test cases.
• Manage system documentation, including hardware setup, configuration guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Develop and deploy backend cloud services (serverless and server-based), manage infrastructure, and implement secure role-based access controls.
• Set up monitoring and alerts, and perform ongoing code maintenance while adding new features for improved system functionality.
• Design and develop frontend solutions for IoT data transformation and maintain API documentation (OpenAPI).
• Troubleshoot system issues, optimise system performance for speed, scalability, and cost-effectiveness, and apply cybersecurity best practices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and end users to align technical solutions with business needs and gather feedback for continuous improvement.

Key Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer engineering/science, EEE or equivalent, with at least 2 years in sensor-based systems and 1 year in IoT/OT device integration.
• Proficient in programming (NestJS, Python)
• Good working knowledge of DevOps in hybrid cloud environments, with excellent troubleshooting, communication, and ability to manage multiple tasks in fast-paced settings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in serverless computing platforms (e.g., Lambda) or container technologies (e.g., Docker) would be advantageous
• Hands-on experience with IoT/OT deployment and integration, including AWS IoT Greengrass, Azure IoT Edge, industrial/embedded protocols (RS-485, Modbus, OPC-UA, I2C, SPI, UART, CAN), and edge/embedded systems will be advantageous.
• Individuals showing keen interest in emerging IoT/OT technologies, self-driven in learning, and preferably holding industry certification in systems engineering certifications will be preferred.
