As part of the growth initiative, a polycarbonate technology development plant is being built in Shell Jurong Island and over the years of its operations a dedicated, modern laboratory would provide analytical support.

What\xe2\x80\x99s the role?

You are expected to perform qualitative and quantitative physico-chemical analysis by following industry standard or internal test methods in a safe and compliant manner. The samples include aqueous and hydrocarbon samples such as petrochemical raw materials, process intermediates and finished products (fine chemicals and polymers). The techniques employed include:

  • Chromatography (LC, GPC-TDA, Combustion-IC GC & GC-MS with HS)
  • Atomic (AES/OES/MS) and molecular spectroscopy (UV-Vis, FT-IR)
  • Thermal (DSC, TGA, MFR) and physical property analysis (color, DSV)
  • Titrations (KF-Oven)
The sample preparation involves weighing, dissolving, diluting, ashing, digesting, roto-vap, cryo-grinding, injection moulding, etc., as well as adjunct activities (catalysts and additives preparation). The role involves all aspects of laboratory operations spanning management of:
  • Equipment (routine maintenance & occasional minor troubleshooting)
  • Quality (calibration & validation)
  • Data (excel & LIMS)
  • Samples (receipt, sub-sampling, safekeeping/storage)
  • Methods (QA/QC and occasional assistance in development)
  • Inventory (chemicals and consumable usage tracking & ordering)
  • Training (self and others) and
  • Vendor (scheduling & coordinating PM/CM visits)
What we need from you
  • Diploma or bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry / Technology or equivalent.
  • While working experience in a chemical or pharmaceutical research or manufacturing laboratory, preferably in an analytical laboratory of a petrochemical manufacturing facility is preferred. Fresh graduates with no experience are welcome to apply.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques, instruments and methods is a must and necessary training would be provided where needed.
  • You are expected to perform all activities diligently and safely work as part of a small team.
  • You are expected to follow good laboratory practices including cleanliness of work area and instruments.
  • Willingness to work on 2 rotating day shift. Though the normal operation is expected to involve only day shift during weekdays, occasionally the role would require extended hours (up to 12 hours) and weekends during plant start-up or upset conditions on overtime basis.
This is a shift role and the successful candidate will start working on day shift initially and gradually move to 2 cycle/8 hours day shift work subsequently (first shift could be from 8AM to 4PM, second shift could be from 12NN to 8PM).
