About the Senior Barista Role
The Senior Barista is responsible for guiding and mentoring Junior Baristas in front-of-house operations, customer service, and the preparation of food and beverages in line with the organization's unique recipes and procedures.
He/She will support the overall upkeep of the cafe, ensuring the serving area remains neat and clean, equipment is fully operational, and inventories are well maintained. This includes following operating and cleaning instructions, troubleshooting minor breakdowns, and replenishing supplies such as coffee beans, tea, pastries, and cookies for the coffee bar.
The Senior Barista should be outgoing, approachable, and customer-focused, with a strong ability to engage customers and provide a positive experience. He/She is expected to set a good example for junior team members, demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and strong communication skills.
This role requires flexibility to work shifts, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and public holidays. The Senior Barista should also have the stamina to remain on their feet for extended periods in a fast-paced environment.
What You'll Be Doing:
Customer Service & Ambassador of Business
Build relationships that inspire customer confidence while exuding friendliness and professionalism.
Engage customers warmly, listen attentively, and assist promptly when they step into the cafe.
Respond politely to inquiries and collaborate with the team to meet customer needs.
Represent Komunal at coffee industry events and community engagements.
Barista Skills & Food Service
Interact with and serve F&B customers, promoting Komunal's goals and values.
Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting F&B service environment.
Prepare and serve menu beverages consistently, educating customers on drink differences, preparation techniques, and coffee knowledge.
Ensure place is readiness for smooth beverage and food service.
Uphold the highest standards of product quality and service presentation.
People and Relationship Management
Encourage effective communication and positive engagement in the workplace.
Build teamwork and foster a supportive, inclusive cafe culture.
Take initiative and go beyond, creating strong team spirit and ownership of the business.
Guide and train Junior Baristas in Komunal's standard operating procedures and coffee related matters.
Support the Social Enterprise Manager in daily cafe operations.
Actively contribute to hiring and manpower planning to strengthen the team.
Innovate
Identify and implement productivity improvements in cafe operations.
Research, develop, and recommend new beverage recipes for approval.
Participate in initiatives and programs to generate more sales and customer engagement.
Stay updated on specialty coffee knowledge; attend workshops and trainings to keep learning.
Workplace Safety, Health & Hygiene
Follow workplace safety and health policies set by SFA and Komunal.
Adhere strictly to food safety and hygiene standards.
Maintain personal hygiene and ensure cafe cleanliness at all times.
Sales
Drive sales by sharing coffee knowledge, helping customers enjoy better coffee, and creating a coffee lifestyle experience.
Observe sales and promotion trends; report insights to improve cafe offerings.
Assist customers in selecting products and coffees they'll appreciate, ensuring they feel valued and eager to return.
Education, experience, and certificate requirements
Minimum 2 years of experience working in the specialty coffee scene
Possess a valid food handler certificate
Must be able to communicate clearly and well and in English
Knowledge of the Specialty Coffee Industry is a plus but/or knowledge of the food and beverage industry is a plus point
Able to work in shifts, weekends, and public holidays
Knowledge in using a coffee machine, dosing, brewing, calibrating, coffee tasting

Pay: $2,500.00 - $3,500.00 per month
