About Us:

Our mission is to transform international supply chains to be more resilient by helping logistics companies realize the full potential of their data. We cater to both shipping lines and cargo airlines. This covers 90% of the world trade volume that travels via ocean and 35% of world trade value that travels via air. We use proprietary machine learning algorithms and real-time external market data (such as economic indices, marine weather, satellite-based data, etc.) to predict how much cargo will be shipped when it will arrive and deliver actionable insights.

About the role:

Portcast has already been used by global freight forwarding companies, manufacturers, shippers, and logistics tech companies. Our customers trust us to deliver fast, reliable and secure predictions to unleash greater profitability and realize the true value of their logistics data. We want to continue earning their trust, while also scaling and delivering new products to serve their needs.

As the Engineering Lead, you will play a pivotal role in driving our product and engineering function to new heights. In this leadership role within our close-knit tech crew, you\'ll be at the helm of our talented team of developers. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will collaborate closely with our executive leadership to own and shape the future of our product and engineering endeavors. The role has the opportunity to grow into a CTO.

What You\'ll Do:

• Technical Leadership: Provide guidance and oversight in designing, building, and maintaining APIs, services, and systems. Proactively address and debug production issues across multiple levels of the stack.

• Technical Ownership: Own the technical direction, architecture, and quality of our software product. Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of our systems.

• System Architecture: Design and enhance the system architecture to ensure it functions seamlessly at scale. Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to our technology stack and feature development.

• Product Alignment: Drive the successful delivery of new products and features while actively participating in product-related discussions and decisions.

• Enterprise-Level Development: Lead the design, development, implementation, and deployment of high-availability web application platforms and APIs. Work collaboratively with the Product Designer at Portcast to ensure seamless execution.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with our Business, Sales & Marketing, Customer Success, and Data Science teams to understand customer pain points and contribute to scalable solutions. Your technical expertise will play a crucial role in aligning our technology solutions with the needs of these teams.

• Technology Advancement: Stay updated on the latest software development technologies and methodologies. Champion the integration of cutting-edge practices to keep Portcast at the forefront of the field.

• Bachelor\'s or Master\'s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience in the field.

• At least 3 years in a similar leadership role and a total of at least 7 years of software development experience.

• Strategic Problem Solver: Expert in first-principles problem-solving, breaking down complexities into manageable parts, exploring innovative solutions, and making sound, reasoned decisions.

• System Architect: Proficient in system architecture, adept at orchestrating components for scalability. Meticulously detail-oriented, offering valuable input for tech stack and feature enhancements.

• Leadership: Experienced leader driving engineering excellence, actively participating in key architectural discussions, and operating within agile principles.

• Empathetic Communicator: You possess the ability to convey nuanced ideas clearly, whether engaged in real-time remote brainstorming or articulating technical decisions in writing. While you may hold strong opinions, you approach disagreements thoughtfully, valuing diverse perspectives and demonstrating a willingness to compromise when necessary.

• Tech Stack Maestro Ideally proficient in Python-based backend programming, Flask, AWS, RESTful API design, and best practices. Familiarity with Docker, Git, Elasticsearch, Spark, CI/CD is a plus. Adaptability to new tech stacks is encouraged.

• Startup Trailblazer (Preferred): If you\'ve served as an early engineering hire at a startup and have contributed significantly to building a technical product from scratch to scale, we\'re eager to hear about your experiences and the valuable insights you\'ve gained along the way.
