Product Reliability Engineering(PRE) is part of the Visa's technology organization. The division is responsible for maintaining and supporting Visa's data assets and provides support for value added products and services to drive innovation for our partners and clients, within Visa and globally. Product Reliability Engineering Big Data Platform Team is part of PRE supports large scale shared clusters and Kafka clusters in Visa. As a Lead Data Engineer, you will help teams design, enhance, support and build automation solution dealing with batch and real-time data in a fast-paced environment. You will work with user and application teams communities across Visa using Big data Technologies. You will be supporting a wide variety of technologies in one of the largest financial data Platform in world.

The candidate will use sound architectural principles to implement effective and efficient solutions in big data Technologies. An excellent fit has strong technical background and has sound written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate has production experience handling customer incidents, changes and working directly into production. You should be passionate about performance, scalability, and maintainability, cares about quality of services supported, and loves to learn new technologies.

  • Effective, polished interaction with customer to capture information quickly, explain customer responsibilities in resolving issue, communicate next steps and status, and inspire confidence
  • Person will be responsible to Perform Big Data Administration and Engineering activities on multiple Hadoop, Kafka, HBase and Spark clusters
  • Strong Troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Lead multiple Application teams using big data services
  • Handling and supporting large scale production big data deployments
  • Cross-team teamwork, build and maintain relationships with the customer teams, the user community, architects, and engineering teams, jointly work on key deliverables ensuring production scalability and stability
  • Effective Root cause analysis of major production incidents and developing learning documentation
  • Work on Performance Tuning and Increase Operational efficiency on a continuous basis
  • Monitor health of the platforms and Generate Performance Reports and Monitor and provide continuous improvements
  • Develop and enhance platform best practices
  • Ensure the Hadoop platform can effectively meet performance and SLA requirements
  • Perform security remediation, automation and selfheal as per the requirement

Additional Information: Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department. Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time. Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD
  • Hands on Experience in Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Kafka is a must.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
  • Work experience in maintaining, optimization, issue resolution of Big Data large scale clusters, supporting Business users and Batch process
  • Excellent Shell, Python programming skills for automation requirement for repetitive dev-ops tasks
  • Strong Debugging skills in Java, Scala and Hive or Spark Sql programming languages
  • Advanced experience in Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, Apache Hive, and Presto
  • Deployment experience with Hadoop distributions open source
  • Advanced experience with System Administration with Linux (RHEL/CentOS) including Microsoft Active Directory, and LDAP integration
  • Experience with troubleshooting Kerberos Authentication problems
  • Experience with Network troubleshooting
  • Experience with RDBMS and NoSQL databases like MySQL, Hbase is a plus
  • Experience in container technology like Kubernetes is a plus
  • Experience on Hortonworks distribution or Open Source preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
