DESIGNATION : Learning Designer (27-month contract), Centre for Teaching Excellence

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reports to the Associate Director and assists on pedagogy matters and technical expertise to support instructors who are converting their courses to blended format
  • Support the Associate Director on the strategic directions and mapping out of BL (Blended Learning) implementation framework and strategies, in consultation with the Director CTE, to advance SMU’s differentiation in the learning environment
  • Will be assigned projects by the Associate Director, and front consultation and professional services on BL projects with instructors to ensure that the solutions developed are in accordance with sound learning design principles and correspond to the learning needs and outcomes
  • Review faculty’s existing content materials, conduct needs assessment with faculty-lead, and make decisions on what to, and how to re-develop these contents and translate them into learning objects that meet standards and guidelines set by international bodies
  • Conduct in-depth quantitative and qualitative analyses to investigate BL feedback at course and University level, produce stakeholder reports and ad-hoc analyses as requested by senior management
  • Identify appropriate solution(s) for the course, including determining the proper blend of instructor-led, hands-on, and web-based training to be used in a given solution
  • Manage vendors to ensure rigor and standard of elearning materials (technical and pedagogical)
  • Evaluate e-learning materials and analyse students’ feedback to improve learning and/or develop additional materials
  • Team up with in-house and external designers and developers as an integral part of the build process
  • Collaborate with CTE team in TEL-related projects to provide pedagogical inputs as Learning Designer in the design and development for a variety of media (e.g. engaging web-based and mobile learning applications, videos, animations, games, simulations and other instructional technologies for online and blended learning activities)
  • Plan and conduct professional development workshops on curriculum design, development, and delivery of BL and its corresponding tools to faculty and staff in SMU
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree in Education/ Learning Design or equivalent
  • 3 to 5 years' of relevant working experience, of which at least 3 years’ experience in designing and developing online and blended learning solutions required
  • Solutions may be a variety of instructional media, including face-to-face, synchronous and asynchronous online learning technologies, self-paced online learning, multimedia etc
  • Strong knowledge and experience in the implementation and management of online, blended learning (preferably in undergraduate and postgraduate courses or programmes of an institute of higher learning) and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) will be an advantage
  • Sound knowledge and experience in applying contemporary and emerging principles of learning/instructional design to online and blended learning, including all phases of the Instructional System Design (ISD) process or Analyse, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation (ADDIE) model
  • Possess statistical knowledge with the ability to transform survey findings to actionable insights e.g. interpret quantitative and qualitative findings to make recommendations
  • Proficient in using relevant statistical software (such as SPSS, R, Python) would be advantageous
  • Proficient in using relevant e-Authoring tools, such as (but not limited to) Articulate, Lectora
  • Curiosity and keen interest in the future of e-learning trends and evolving tools is advantageous
  • Extensive knowledge of online learning tools and media
  • Experience in videography and video-editing would be advantageous
  • Possesses good project management, resource management and people management skills
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent communications skills with a good command of both oral and written English
  • Excellent time management and ability to multi-task
  • A motivated, self-starter and team player who is resourceful and independent
